Just wondering if anyone has any information on this street closure? Businesses on this block are without 12 parking stalls because of this closure. It wasn't apparent as to why the sidewalk was closed beneath the McKenzie Seeds south tower until a large piece of the building hit the roadway this week. Businesses and residents of Brandon were not warned of the danger even though Horizon Construction knew of the danger. (The copper cornice that decorates the top floor of the building has rotten structure behind it) Who dropped the ball on this one?  
Any end in sight for the road closure? I'm sure local businesses would like to know....

First of all, I'm very glad no one was hurt, nor anything damaged. I worked in this building for many years, and this does not surprise me in the least. Different issue, but ice from the roof was quite famous for damaging the tops of cars parked in their back lot. (Yes, my car was a victim of this falling ice once.)

It's an old building that possibly requires expensive repairs, and is of limited value.

the plan to make it into condos wasn''t financially viable or didn''t get the interest. I would imagine the cost to turn that building into liveable space would be large. To bring everything to code (Water, Sewer, Electrical), removing of asbestos, and anything else would cost a pretty penny.  
 
Sadly it will likely stay unused and continue to fall apart.

Hopefully this doesn't drag on like the collapse that happened on 10th St in 2011.

Via the city, this block is now open to traffic with the West sidewalk and three parking stalls still being off limits:  
 

A note from our Planning, Property &: Buildings Dept that the ongoing road closure in the 000-Block of 9th St has now been lifted &: 1-way traffic has been reinstated. However, the westerly sidewalk &: 3 parking stalls in front of 20-9th St (along w/ back lane) remain fenced. #BdnMb
