Manitoba grapes

Anyone have Manitoba grapes they are not using? They need to be harvested after the first frost. We are looking for some. Please respond to this post.

Assume you probably mean Valiant Grapes, or are not particular with variety?

There have been some posted for sale in the classifieds, but it looks like the ad is no longer up (believe I saw it in mid-late August). Your best bet to make a direct 1 to 1 connection with someone would be placing a Wanted ad in the classifieds. The one problem you might run into with someone thats left theirs on the vine this late (or plans to leave them until we get frost) is wasps. I hadn't had issues in any other year, but they've been like a pack of wolves this year when they get a cluster of grapes they've gotten into on my vine and one other vine that I know of. We still ended up with 15+ pounds off of our vine to do a wine experiment, but the longer they're left on I imagine the bigger task it would be to sort between the good and the bad. Good luck!

I am picking the fruit off my vines of Valiant grapes. They are gorgeous this year! So sweet and tasty.

Will be bringing some to the Brandon Farmer's Market on Saturday. I have an ad in the eClassifieds for grapes for sale here on eBrandon if anyone is interested.

FYI, the Valiant grape is a result of crossing the Concord grape with the native Manitoba grape. The Concord is not hardy here. The Valiant is hardy, tastes and looks like the Concord. The Concord grape is what Welch's makes their grape juice from.

What type of vines we have but every year we let people come pick them for free as I won't use them. One year there was over 50 lbs of grapes and we don't trim or take care of the vine at all! Lol although if people in the classifieds are charging for them maybe we should be too.. hmmm next year I guess! Lol

My grandpa grew concord grapes around Edrans, so they can grow and survive here depending on your particular garden and microclimate. He grew them from bought grapes' seeds.

Valiant have such a nice taste and are so hardy. Fresh eating is such tough sledding with all of the seeds though. Am just learning winemaking and have read they aren't a great wine grape but sometimes I like learning the hard way

I know of someone as far North as Saskatoon that's had success with Concord. The wine store said they know of at least a couple people that grow locally in a sheltered spot (I.e. South wall).... so its definitely possible.

The one I'm giving a shot next spring is Somerset. Supposedly sweet and seedless. I know there's been some success in North Dakota and have found at least one site that says they can go as low as zone 3 so no harm in experimenting with a cutting. If anyone knows where a guy could get a Concord cutting I'd give that a shot too! Would be interesting to hear about any other off the board varieties people have had luck with in our zone.

I am looking for any cuttings that someone might have as well. If they have a bit of roots, or if someone is willing to root one for me for spring, I would be very appreciative!

I might be able to get concord from my aunt who got cuttings from my grandpa. I will have to give her a call to see. I want some to try anyway. I can let you know, Adam!

I've tried to PM you back but it won't work for me I keep getting errors. My grapes are spoken for this year but you are welcome to take some shoots off our vines if you want. We do live out of brandon though.
