I am looking for information on trans:cription jobs from home as a supplementary income. Does anyone do this and if so could you advise where I could start looking, or can you refer me to a legitimate company to contact?  
Questions:  
*How many hours per week do you spend at it and are there deadlines once you start a project?  
*How much do you get paid (I know this will vary but some kind of ball park figure as I have no idea?)  
*How do you get paid? (One site I visited said it was via paypal which seemed suspicious but maybe it is fine?) - or do you receive an actual pay check?  
*Are there risks involved (ie does your work ever get rejected for any reason)?  
*Any other considerations I haven't thought of?

I think a friend of my wife's did that for a short time. I don't know the details but it wasn't long until she went back to work just because it wasn't paying as well as her friend thought

Sent a reply MrsSmitty; I appreciate that you're trying to help but really hoping to hear an actual testimonial from someone who has done this or is currently doing it so I can gather basic information and answers to the questions above. I realize it won't pay the same as a traditional job, but I have no idea what kind of pay range to expect. If anyone else has info that would be helpful, it would be appreciated.

Rates will vary depending on whether you are working for an agency or contracting independently.  
 
It has been some time since I was in the business, but I charged by the page and worked independently for some private practitioners who didn't require the services of a large organization.  
 
Your pay per hour and ability to continue to work will depend on your ability to have a fast turnaround with a high degree of accuracy.  
 
I doubt it would replace a full time job, although if you are a fast typist you can do pretty well for the time you are actually working.

I have been working from home doing trans:cription for almost 10 years now and love it. I must say the pay is not necessarily what I was hoping for, but when you factor in that you do not spend extra on work clothes, wear and tear on your vehicle and the flexibility it offers, it is definitely worth it.  
 
I did my training through Canscribe based out of British Columbia and would totally recommend them to anyone. They were wonderful and still provide support to me even 10 years later. The course is pricey and if I had to do it again, I would not pay the extra for the text books unless you are going to be away from computer access for an extended period of time as everything is available online.  
 
Most companies require a minimum commitment, either so many lines per week (a line is generally based on 65 characters) or so many dictated minutes. The pay is different per company. I have worked for 2 different companies and one paid by cheque and the other one by direct deposit so that too is really company dependent.

I have tried doing this before but spent hours trying to find a reputable company that would even accept me. I already have a trans:cription course through college. I can type over 65 words per min. Would I still require this Canscribe course? Who were some of the companies that you worked for?

No, you don't necessarily need the Canscribe course but companies do look for qualified trans:criptionists. I previously worked for Sten-Tel based in the U.S. and currently work for Nuance (formerly Accentus)
