You could buy the blank ornament balls at Micheal's and paint them to custom spec for each athlete. Frost the insides with white and paint their names on the outside of the globe surface. Different colour for each player, or maybe a different colour for each line, squad, whichever...

I was there today and most of their Christmas items were anywhere from 50% - 70% off.
