we have dairy and they control our quota and what we get paid for it but the stores control the cost they sell for. No way are we getting anywhere near $4 a litre for our milk. And we are not getting those values for the grains we grow either. the retail outlets set their pricing. And yes I was told by some market farmers that Peak of the Market prevents them from selling certain vegetables so that to me sounds like a monopoly? (kind of like we are not allowed to sell our milk from the farm gate to people) " |

Yes, there used to be a maximum and minimum price set that a store could charge for milk. I seem to remember some convenience stores being busted for charging too much.
It appears that at some point the retail controls were dropped, although I cannot seem to figure out when.
***Edit***
It appears that the Manitoba Milk Prices Review Commission was still setting min and max prices for 1L of milk in Brandon and Winnipeg in 2013, not sure about current prices.
2L and 4L not controlled.
