I am starting my Christmas shopping and want to pick up some fun board games as gifts. Looking for recommendations for family appropriate games as well as more adult themed games. What are your favorite board games?

...with a group of friends. These are all family appropriate but some may be a bit complicated if you're wanting to play with younger kids:

Those are just a few of the favorites I can remember off the top of my head. They have all of them except Seven Wonders at Boardgame Empire. $5 and you can give them a trial run!

Has an amazing game selection! I was in on the wknd and couldn't believe the games they have!

My family likes to play the Speak Out game with the mouth guard thingys. It's also a hit at parties. A good adult themed game we like is Cards Against Humanity. Raunchy but so fun and a lot of belly laughs!

Ticket to Ride is definitely one of my personal favourites! I haven't played a full Catan for years, but I have many fond memories of it.  
 
Also, branch out from board games! We play lots of card and dice games.  
 
Skip Bo is a favourite here (from the makers of Uno), as is tile rummy (sometimes called rummy-o). Settlers of Catan also has a dice version which is quick to play and lots of fun. We also play Yatzee a lot, and of course good old fashioned cribbage! Farkle is another one we enjoy (dice).

I love that game too, it's only drawback is that it needs at least 3 people.

the best places to check on board games locally are Toymasters & Boardgame Empire AKA I Want That Stuff, but also Janzens. I've bought great games at all 3 places.

I second scattergories! Favourite board game!

Pandemic is a really fun game geared more to young teens and adults. The 2 or more players play together against the game to win. I've seen it at Walmart.

It's really easy to learn, requires a little strategy but not a lot of tough thought. You can play it two player and doesn’t lessen the fun at all. It's a great game for a lazy afternoon or for a group of non-gamers, as well as for more serious gamers. I highly recommend!!

Alhambra is one of my groups favourites as well!

I love quelf, you can play with kids. My family plays with the kids. I also like playing uno extreme with the kids and phase 10.

I really like dutch blitz (card game) and smart a** (trivia game)!

My friends and I like to play games like CAH. We find that one boring now though.  
 
We like personally incorrect a lot better. This year we also got “disturbed friends”, sleep in a bucket” and I think one called “what would you rather??”  
 
We played a new one tonight called “hearing things” or something like that. One player puts on noise cancelling earmuff things and you have to read the lips of your partner to guess the phrase. It’s more family friendly

My favorite is Taboo!  
Love that one.

Telestrations. Good for families or adults, really depends on your crowd that will set the "mood" for this one. That's for sure!
