I don't know anyone with a DVD player...not counting PS4's or Xbox's. I mean if your over 50 you likely have DVD's that you put into a DVD player but anyone 40 or under doesn't watch a lot of DVD's. How do I know? Find me a place that sells DVD's. Best Buy has a limited selection and that will likely disappear in the next year or so. Walmart sells DVD's but they're mostly garbage being liquidated and they also sell CD's which no one cares about. Otherwise, in a city of 50,000 where do you go to buy DVD's? What's the last DVD you ran out to buy? What was the Hottest new DVD release?
I know people still have DVD's and my brother has like 200 blue rays he collects for some reason...but the point I'm trying to make is no store is going to pay ANYTHING for your DVD's because they can't move them. Even if a store bought them for $1/each they likely couldn't sell them for $5 and they surely couldn't sell them all. " |

QUOTE: Best Buy has a limited selection and that will likely disappear in the next year or so. Walmart sells DVD's but they're mostly garbage being liquidated and they also sell CD's which no one cares about.
FACT: Best Buy's number 1 national category is Computers. Best Buy's number 2 is Home Audio/Video. Number 3 is visual/audio media (DVDs/CDs). Number 4 is wireless...They will not be getting rid of them anytime soon as it outsells 40% of the product they currently carry.
Walmart does not sell "mostly garbage being liquidated" DVDs. EVERY Tuesday, they release EVERY SINGLE NEW RELEASE worldwide. 70% of Walmart's DVDs are sold at regular or rollback pricing. The 4 or 5 liquidation dump bins Walmart has accounts for 6% of the titles in stock.
As for where to find movies: Giant Tiger carries older movies. Superstore, Safeway, Walmart, Best Buy, Shoppers Drug Mart carry new releases and such locally. Jiffy is a video store that is thriving.
Nationally, Chapters/Indigo, The Bay, Sunrise, London Drugs...the list goes on!

I also don't use Netflix, and I'm mid 30's " |

The original poster seems to have found a few options to liquidate his DVD's. I'm sure you're very knowledgable and don't doubt your stats. My original statement was basically saying that in a room full of 100 people maybe 10 still buy DVD's. (I know that's not EXACTLY what I said but I don't care enough to go back and read it). I stand by my statement that the USED DVD MARKET isn't great and there are not very many people in it. Compare anything you said to the same time period in 1990 and you'd say the DVD market is basically dead. Likely why you're a "Former" movie merchandiser. (Also I don't care if it's not why...)
But...anyway I don't actually care at all about any of this discussion and I've become the guy I hate who posts on a thread but doesn't actually help the OP. " |

"The original poster seems to have found a few options to liquidate his DVDs"
First off, the poster likely advertised in the wrong places. Facebook Buy/Sell works great. Also, if you offer the movies as a lot for $1.00 to $2.50 a movie, they will surely sell. Pawn Shops and Movie Stores would pay $1.00 to $2.50 a movie any day (unless they are fully stocked). Also, you said "his". This is Liberal Canada, please be gender neutral.
"My original statement was basically saying that in a room full of 100 people maybe 10 still buy DVD's. (I know that's not EXACTLY what I said but I don't care enough to go back and read it)"
So clearly you don't care to do research before typing a statement or commenting on a post. Attention to detail is key in maintaining credibility, especially when every poster who responded with a statement has disagreed with you so far.
"I stand by my statement that the USED DVD MARKET isn't great and there are not very many people in it"
The USED DVD market may not be thriving in Brandon itself, but it thrives in many cities. For example, in Regina, there are five stores devoted ONLY to used DVDs and Blu Rays. One store in Saskatoon sells ONLY records, VHS, and Beta!!! In Winnipeg, I'm sure you can find movie stores and DVD outlets.
"Likely why you're a "Former" movie merchandiser. (Also I don't care if it's not why...)"
I'm a FORMER merchandiser because when two competing companies merged, territories were realigned, and four of us were replaced by "cheaper labour" (outsourced/foreigners, which we were compensated for by orders of Labour Standards/Labour Board).
"But...anyway I don't actually care at all about any of this discussion and I've become the guy I hate who posts on a thread but doesn't actually help the OP. "
You have helped by making the OP and their DVDs feel worthless, and like garbage. But thats the E-Brandon way...100 people, 90 are helpful, and 10 just stir the pot (hah, 10 out of every 100 stir the pot, just like 10 out of every 100 have DVDs!)
