So many women your age know what they want and are where they want to be, except for the man part. The men in this age group have no idea where they are going and most do not have their act together. I have plenty of single female friends who aren't even looking. A lot of guys in this city are kind of pathetic and looking mostly for the obvious. We gave up a long time ago. If we meet one then hey, that's great. But our lives definitely don't revolve around looking for one.

I will agree with the "knowing what they want" part though as we "older" guys are the same way. I know what attracts me and if it''s not there, it just isn''t worth pursuing.Honestly, I am not looking for the "obvious" nor am I intimidated by an independent woman: in fact, that is a turn-on for me. Hey, I ruined your "typical guy" mold

Can I guess that you are 55? If so, there are plenty of men in that age group that know what they want. The problem is, the age gap is generally too much.  
 
Any guy that''s been single for quite some time, in his 30''s and 40''s is "generally" single for a reason or he just really likes those easy women and has plenty of them. Sorry to state it like that. It''s hard for a guy to have standards when he can have as many easy women as he wants. It''s destroyed men.  
 
There are women that have higher standards and those that don''t. It''s hard to find a guy in his 40''s with high standards.

Change 40 to 50 and LookandLearn described me. I was asked recently why I was still single and I said I wish I knew! If you are not into the bar scene it is hard to meet guys that have it together AND are single.

But do you really? I will tell a slightly humorous but sadly true statement from "That guy" that everyone says they want but when it comes right down to it, they aren't as ready for it as they think. My pattern seems to be meeting people that say they want a good guy, but can't handle it. Date 1 goes well, leading to a 2nd, which often leads to slight intimacy by a good night kiss. Date 3 often leads to a phrase being said which now makes my hairs on my neck stand up. "I can't believe you are this nice. I didn't think men like you existed. I find myself letting my guard down with you" I go with the flow, let the passion grow, and often by date 4 there are clothes flying everywhere, a night of romance worthy of any cheap novel, but sadly, by the time the sweat is barely dry I find myself holding a sobbing pile of goo screaming "My daddy doesn't love me anymore" If you want a good guy, make sure you are ready.

I was thinking about this today. When we were young, we became a couple, and we evolved together. We pursued our hopes and dreams with our partner, we created our future.  
 
As you get older, you realize that you have really done most of your evolving as a person. You will change a little more as you get older but now, you really know who you are and what you want (ok not everyone knows obviously). So finding a partner that has evolved to be a compatible partner and wants many of the same things as you - in a city this size - is not always easy. Especially, if you ideally belong in a larger city or have a broad range of interests. If you are looking for a guy that watches sports and sits on the couch, there's plenty of those here.

Pursue your life goals and forget about finding a partner. Work on your dreams, things you've always wanted to do. Because then, you will run into someone pursuing some of the same dreams, in your circle. That sounds like a much better way to find a match. Get out and do what you love. Don't stay at home waiting for Mr Right on the internet. Go on POF, those same guys have been there for a very long time, checking in several times a day, obviously not going anywhere with their life. I used to be on there, it was always the same guys, mostly.

I don't sleep around, when a person has a small child, I at least, tend to be very choosy on who I associate with, for my daughters sake

I am a guy in my mid 30s, and I CONSTANTLY see and hear girls complaining that there's no good or decent men out there.. And i have concluded that most, not all, women want the wealthy, tall, dark and handsome guys, whether or not they have something in common.. And I find that a lot of the divorces through people I know in Brandon and westman, are caused by the eventual realization that they don't love each other or have anything in common.. People are in relationships for looks and security and most aren't working out.. what is this world coming too? The saying "nice guys finish last" seems to hold true! I'm still trying to find a good girl who I have things in common with and likes me for who I am, not what I can do for her! Hopeless old school romantic right here.

I thought us guys had it rough, but apparently the girls have a hard time finding someone as well. The love game is one of the hardest games we will ever play in our lives. Some will win, and some will lose. I just wish it weren't so hard, for any of us.  
 
As for what Half Mast said, I know that seems to be what a lot girls are thinking, that there are no decent guys out there but there are a lot of decent guys out there. Not all us guys are the same. Some of us just want a nice honest and loving relationship.  
 
Hopefully one day we will all find that special someone. Remember, the love game is a hard game to play so don't give up :-)

sad that people get into relationship or get married only because that love isn't really first on the list. They don't want to be alone or think they have to have someone or get married.  
I prefer alone than have a sour hypocrite liar relationship

My experience is there are to many players out there trying to make up for lost time after a long marriage.  
 
It's hard to find someone with there life together, who is positive and happy. After 50, none of us are what we were in our 30's, our bodies and looks have changed, and in my case for the better, but if you are a good person on the inside, then, that is who I want to meet.  
 
Oh and please have some patience, intimacy comes with love, trust and respect, not with coffee or supper, but maybe that is just me.

if you a looking for someone who will see your genuine qualities before your looks. When you are an attractive woman, guy's mental states stop working as they should. It's really hard to tell why they like you. And every time, it's usually because you are nice and good looking. They can't seem to process past that point. It's up to the woman to try and decipher if the guy is good for them or not. It's an exhausting task that really never gives the woman what she's looking for.  
 
It's almost impossible to tell what a guy's intentions are. Because almost every guy jumps at the opportunity to date a good looking, nice person. Most of them turn out to be not at all what we were looking for, they just put on a good act for a while.

That's why so many of us stopped looking. Just let it happen, get out there and enjoy your life. It will happen eventually. Become the person you've always wanted to be. Dating is exhausting.

you nailed it crop - it is exhausting, and a "relationship" is way way too stressful - who needs that? and then the guy is a wanderlust and liar eventually - so who needs that in their life???

A few posts here. True a lot of women are looking for that fictional character of tall/dark/handsome but reality is two people must connect and not everyone can have the fictional character they dream of, causing people to just settle now a days which is leading to many divorces like you mention. I agree "nice guys finish last" but that saying is true for women as well. Also agree with Eric, love is the hardest game one plays in life, for many different reasons and aspects. I''''m mid 30s single and believe if it''''s meant to be it will be. When you give up on the game of love that is when you settle, so keep your eyes open, you never know where you will meet "the one"
