My sister recently got divorced and she has a very expensive engagement ring that she no longer wants (and it's hers to do with as she pleases as per the settlement). Anyway, what does she do with it? It was suggested she get it made into something else but she feels that she wants nothing to do with the stones and would always feel that they were linked to her old marriage. Do jewelery stores buy old diamond rings? Other suggestions where she could take them and sell them would be appreciated.

You could try at a pawn shop but honestly jewellery doesn't hold value very well no I wouldn't be sure how much she would get for it. Place an ad on here to may be another solution

take the diamonds out and sell separately from the gold. My friend did this and got more money that way. Jewelers don't pay a lot for rings. Get prices for doing it both ways. There aren't that many jewelry stores in town so phoning, or dropping in to get answers is pretty easy.

She could always get it appraised and sell it accordingly. People sell old rings all the time. Whether it’s because they want an updated set, the engagement broke off, wedding ended whatever it may be. You’d be surprised who doesn’t mind a used set if the price is right.  
 
Do not take it to a pawn shop. They will not give her anything remotely close to what it’s worth!

Find an official gold buyer. Couple places in Wpg. They will pay per ounce for the gold. I’m sure they would be interested in the diamonds as well depending on size.

Any Kids? I know I took my ex's jewelry and am saving it for my daughter. She can get something made up with it all at a later date.

Get it appraised and sell it for whatever you can get. Sounds like she wants nothing to do with it so recoup as much as possible and call it a day.

If you have children, you could consider giving it to the oldest. I did that after my 10 year marriage ended. My daughter loved it, and appreciated my reason for giving it to her.

Down into earrings or a pendent or what ever. Or save it for your kid(s) education needs ie. university. Or sell the gold and gems separately at today's market pricing

it is part of the settlement, which, dependant on the value of the ring can weigh heavily.

You won’t get full value but if your on the buying side jewelry usually seem to expensive on here. That makes it a good place to sell!! Price it right and stuff moves fast on ebrandon.
