Okay... it’s time we bring up “the sign”. I wonder if anyone really truly understands what it means. Many of us use the area behind Home Depot as a short-cut. That stop sign by Safeway drives me nuts, so behind Home Depot is my favourite detour. As you leave the area behind Home Depot there is a sign. THE SIGN! I’ve been honked at by people for going to left and for going right. I wonder if people really understand what that sign means...

I think it means no left turns for large trucks, anyone else? I use it all the time as well

always take it as that it prohibits large trucks from making the left turn. But I can also see how it can interpreted as only large trucks can make the turn. It could be worded better.

I interpret it that way too.

Considering the location, it can't possibly be prohibiting trucks from making that turn.  
 
That is where all the major loading bays are for Home Depot, Best Buy, Winners, Michaels, and Walmart.  
 
To prohibit trucks from being able to turn left there makes no sense. The right turn would make sense, as there is not really sufficient space for a truck to make a right turn, but left?

I’ve honestly wondered this as well. I’ve made the left turn but not really sure if I’m suppose too.

meaning that heavy truck traffic is allowed on that street from 18th to get into that parking lot for deliveries, but trucks leaving and trying to go east towards 1st street to exit the city are prohibited.

I see the way the curb is set and the sign just makes it obvious. ...Right turn to exit only and exit designated for heavy trucks. The whole design is meant to keep the semi's from traveling any further onto Kirkcaldy east of the Coral. Just for them to use the lights to come in and leave from 18th street. I'm glad some of you found a "short cut", but you're not suppose to turn left when exiting to go east and you're not supposed to turn in right when heading westbound on the avenue. ...If so, then I'll blow my horn at you for being stupid for not paying attention or selfish for nor giving a crap.

That I interpret the sign is no left turn for semis only. All other vehicles are permitted a left turn.

If you look carefully at the shape of the exit, you will notice it has an part sticking out on the left side of the curb that would prevent a tractor trailer from being able to make a left hand turn without his load coming up over the curb along with his back wheels which could be very bad for everyone involved. The sign means:  
 
your a car turn left or right  
 
You carrying a load right turn only because if you turn left your gonna catch your kid on the curb and it’s gonna be messy  
 

Catch your load on the curb*  
Not catch your kid.

I haven't been in Brandon in a few years. I thought the sign was for Kirkaldy eastbound into the Home Depot area.  
 
Nope, it's the lot turning onto Kirkaldy. So, yeah left turns are prohibited for trucks only!

with the increase in traffic on Kirkcaldy, and the constant line up Westbound to turn into the Centre, the back route is most times easier. Shindico and our city should be held to account to add a "Full" turning lane into the Corral Centre off of Kirkcaldy, if there are more than 3 vehicles at the red, no one can turn in, plus you get another red at 18th, the flow is horrible. If you keep adding to one shopping area, increased traffic is going to happen, so changes should be made to accommodate.

The sign does state no left turns but the "Semi Trucks Only" sign is a qualifier underneath to which it only applies. It would be much the same as having a no left turn sign and then a sign underneath stating specific times on day that it would be in effect. You would still able to make a turn anytime after the specified times.

It's not a shortcut. It's an entrance into the parking lot. Trucks can't turn east from the parking lot, cars can and do.  
 
The true short cut is the one way road between home depot and best buy that I use to leave so I don't have to drive through the mess of a parking lot.

I added a photo didn't mean to hijack your post. Having said that, the "no left turn for trucks" photo I added would provide people with clarification I would think.  
 
I too, believe the existing sign is meant for tractor-trailer drivers.

Truer words have not been spoken....that parking lot is a mess, and cars driving on the arteries in that lot go too fast in my opinion. It makes it hard for cars to enter from the various lots, as well as dangerous for pedestrians crossing in spots like the front of the Subway restaurant.  
 
Just try and get into the Home Depot parking lot when towing a trailer to pick up lumber. All the entrances into the lot are now so narrow now that if you can't swing into the opposing lane to make a right turn, you end up over the curbs.  
 
That back way behind Home depot is a godsend to get to Walmart in a reasonable period of time. It saves the waits at the various 3 way stops. You can go through 3 of them to get to Walmart.  
 
I don't know if there is a plan to the expansion and additions of new stores...they may well be throwing darts whilst blindfolded.  
 
Back to the original topic though, I agree the sign is stating that there is no left turns for the commercial trucks.

So we all know a yellow dotted line means that you can cross it but there is oncoming traffic on the other side of the line... and a yellow solid means that you can not cross it and there is oncoming traffic on the other side of the line. With this knowledge and the fact that there is a solid yellow ... I think technically speaking we shouldn’t be turning left anyway... right?

The way the curb is made, it would mean no left turn. But in that case, a left turn should be allowed matter what vehicle you drive. I do no understand how a semi is going to make a left turn at the spot given the way the curb is made.  
 
Then at the same time going west on Kirkcaldy, based on the curb. You shouldn't be allowed to enter that area either.

Here it is - as a semi driver this is my understanding. I cannot turn left leaving Home Depot as it is illegal for my semi to go rolling thru a residential area - which it is as soon as one turns onto kirkcaldy. Now as for the question how do we get out - we can exit using the road between Walmart and Michael’s, as it is pretty straight and takes us straight to 18th street. In saying this-if traffic permits we can also turn right leaving the road behind Home Depot and make our way to 18th. Cars are free to turn left at their will.

It's poorly worded, but common sense should prevail here.  
 
1) If it was no left turns for anyone, it would just say "no left turns".  
 
2) If trucks were allowed to turn left, it wouldn't have a shaped curb preventing them from doing it.  
 
Thus, the only remaining option is for it to be interpreted as "no left turns for trucks only".

Solid yellow lines apply to traffic flowing in the direction of the line, not for cross traffic.

I always use it to go home. I understand it as no left turn for trucks
