Yes there are some bad brand names about, but the well known ones are generally very good quality! You would not catch me trusting a value/ no frills or no name product! If it’s cheap to buy, then it’s very very cheap to make and probably of very low quality! Just like anything else that’s made cheap and nasty nowadays! What’s next? No name car parts, furniture, electrical appliances! " |

You do realize that a not insignificant part of the premium you're paying for name brand is advertising, right? There's actually very little difference in most products (most store brand and no name products are made by name-brand companies), but with store brands you're not paying for national advertising AND you're not paying for the premium those companies pay to have their products shelved at eye-level.
If you want to spend you money on name brand, that's your perogative, and there's good reasons to sometimes buy name brand if you have allergies or food sensitivities as they generally *are* more reliable for allergen testing, etc. But ideally we shouldn't be eating much of anything from a box or can, right?
As for the rest, we often buy used.

Let someone else pay the premium for new.
