use a proper kit

Don't use off or toothpaste or any other 'quick fix'. They might look like they work, but you haven't solved the problem and might have made it worse. The reason your lenses fade over time is damage from UV. The good news is it's just the surface layer of plastic that is damaged. A *good* kit, or you can assemble what you need yourself, will i:nclude a glossy clear coat to protect it after, but the critical point is that this needs to have a UV protectant to be a long term fix. Otherwise the problem will just come back, and your plastic is further damaged.
Factory lenses are often made with relatively cheap UV protection that breaks down quicker than you'd like. Some people have reported that restoring them themselves with a good UV protection layer will last longer than factory. You can buy the stuff you need (several different grits of sandpaper and a spray on UV clear coat) for around $20. Search youtube and look for instructions for a proper job that mentions the above. I recommend one called "How to Restore Headlights PERMANENTLY" by ChrisFix. And do it in the summer since you need to wet sand (unless you have a heated garage). If you're willing, and get the material yourself, you can probably do the job in about 1/2 hr.
Good luck.
