One week after capturing the Canada West Conference Championship with a thrilling five set win over Trinity West, the Bobcats shift their focus to the big prize this weekend at the U Sports Nationals in Laval, Quebec.
Entering the tournament as the #1 ranked team amongst the eight participants, the Cats’ first game gets underway at noon Manitoba time this afternoon against the Montreal Carabins. The winner of that game earns a spot in tomorrow night’s semi-finals with the hope of earning a spot in the Championship game scheduled for Sunday.
The action can be watched by Livestream at a charge of $9.99 for a day or $14.99 for a pass that would give access to the whole weekend. The Bobcats will also be hosting a free viewing party on Friday at the Healthy Living Centre gym. The Semi-final and Championship Final games are scheduled to be shown at BU’s Harvest Hall with a capacity of 500 people.
BU Athletics provides excellent coverage on its website and the Brandon Sun via sportswriter Thomas Friesen is maintaining a daily blog from Quebec, the most recent edition being here. The team this morning put out this preview video for this afternoon that's worth a watch:
The last Bobcat team to win a national title was Mike McEwen’s curling rink in 2002. Earlier this week Bobcats’ Outside Hitter Elliot Viles was awarded the honour of Most Valuable Player in Mens Volleyball this season. He was joined by Grant Wilson as Coach of the Year.
I’d like to use this opportunity to wish the guys the best of luck.... you saw first hand with all of the reaction last weekend how many folks back in Brandon there are that are behind you this weekend!
