Viral post seeks owner of phone found in used vehicle

Posted by Adam in Driving, 4/8/2019

Coins, old French fries, long lost and since forgotten toys.... if you’re like me you’ve found just about everything between the seats and other crevasses of your car’s interior.

In a story shared in a post thats gone viral locally with over 1800 shares since Saturday, a Souris resident found a bigger surprise when searching in a vehicle they bought pre-owned from Brandon last year. In the backseat in the vehicle’s arm rest between two cup holders was an iPhone, clearly an older model based on its size.

With how reliable Apple devices are known to be, a simple charge and the phone was able to be powered up.  When powered the locked phone showed a date of Wednesday, December 31 with a picture that can hopefully help connect owner to device. There are two schools of thought on what the date shown on the phone might reveal. The most recent year that New Years Eve fell on a Wednesday was 2014, which if taken literally and assuming the phone picked up where it left off could mean that’s when it was last used. On the other hand, devices are known to revert to the date December 31, 1969... also a Wednesday. If I was a betting man I’d lean toward the latter scenario, but either way there’s a piece of tech that was highly unlikely to have been intentionally left where it was found by its owner!

The phone as it turns out is an iPhone 4S model, first released in the fall of 2011.

Brenda is trying her best to find the rightful owner of the phone, mindful of the possibility of valuable pictures and personal info on it. Since the post was made on Saturday no serious leads turned up. The make and model of the vehicle is being kept close to the vest so as to help identify the owner!

If you recognize the folks in the pic, you can contact Brenda at beej226@gmail.com
