With Shoppers Mall’s connection hallway to Sobeys temporarily closed and teasing that “something exciting” is coming, last week you may have read in this section rumours that that something may be a mural.
The Mall confirmed that this morning in a media release, indicating that a large approximately 10 foot x 50 foot mural will be created in the space. The artwork, chosen from over 20 applications received in response to a call for proposals earlier this year, is said to have three distinct sections influenced by local and provincial history, geography and culture. The mural will be created by Kelowna-based Kristin Grant, whose work can be seen on her Instagram at http://instagram.com/urbanheart
According to the media release the completed work will be viewable as part of re-opening the connection hall for the mall’s Grand Re-Opening Celebration on June 22. In the interim Sobeys can still be accessed from its main exterior entrance.
Separately, Brandon has this spring seen a handful of murals created on Downtown buildings as part of a project spearheaded by the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation.
