13,595 sqft of prime 18th Street space has been leased

After having sat vacant for the better part of seven months, a prominent piece of commercial space in the city’s South End appears to have at least one tenant in waiting.

1350 18th Street Unit 3, better known as Shoppers Drug Mart’s former South End location, has in recent days visually been the recipient of interior and exterior contractor work including what appears to be the beginning of the removal of elements specific to Shoppers Drug’s store look on the building’s exterior.

On further inspection, plans available online indicate that the space of just over 17,000 square feet will be divided into two with a significant 13,595 square foot portion at the Northern end of the building being leased to an as-yet-unknown tenant. The remaining 3,463 square feet is advertised as being available for lease beginning in August.

Though not able to comment on nature of tenants, a spokesperson for the real estate has said that work underway is not expected to impact current tenants or customers.

Plans for the same mall label cannabis retailer Garden Variety occupying a separate space between Pennington’s and KFC/Taco Bell. Shoppers Drug Mart re-located to Shoppers Mall Brandon in November and also maintains a second store on Victoria Avenue East.

Someone going into old Shoppers building?
