The bees have done their thing and the recent summer uptick in summer heat has taken it from there. Grand Valley Strawberries has advised that berry picking at their farm just a East of Brandon will be on for the season beginning at noon Saturday.
This year will see two separate locations in rotation- one field adjacent the river just East of Brandon off of Veterans Way and the second just a few minutes further East along Veteran’s Way referred to as their Hillside location. Picking on a Saturday begins at the Hillside location. Which of the locations is being used on any given day will be clearly indicated by signage along Veterans Way as well as published ahead of time at grandvalleystrawberries.ca, the farm’s social media and its pre-recorded phone message at 204.728.8453.
A 4 litre pail will cost $13. Hours for today will be 12 noon to 6 pm. After closing for Sunday, hours next week beginning on Monday will run from 8am to 8pm.
Picking had been well underway by this time last year, having begun in late June with more favourable spring weather conditions. A cooler spring in 2019 has resulted in the slight delay relatively speaking this year. On average Grand Valley Strawberries are open for three weeks with updates posted via the same sources noted above.
