BPS remind drivers to 'Lock It Up!'

Posted by Adam in Local News, 12/27/2018

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being a first-time victim of a vehicle break-in. “It can’t happen to me” quickly turns into the realization of just how easily one’s car can be opened and rummaged through and the fact that we have our share of individuals in the community that are more than willing to do so.

Followers of the discussion forums will know that when a vehicle is broken into and the issue is raised with a post, the first question that usually comes up is “did you lock the doors?” Some then question whether it would stop someone determined to break in, but there ends up being a pretty solid chorus of people that feel locking doors at least reduces unwanted vehicle intruders.

Brandon Police Service would seem to agree. If you’ve been watching the Twitter feed on the new eBrandon front page you’ve probably noticed that BPS have been sending out nightly reminders on social media at 9pm a lot like this one shared a few moments ago:

I have a feeling that like the general debate on break-ins, opinions are probably going to be split on just how much of a difference a campaign like this could have. On that topic I tend to go back to when a wise teacher of mine liked to remind our class that “repetition is the mother of memory.” I think sending out simple nudges like these is great little no-risk initiative and would love to have a look at Police crime stats after the campaign has been running for a few months to see if it turns up any kind of real world results!
