Brandon now has a Pétanque Court for those who partake in the growing game in the city or wish to give it a try.
The city announced today that a court has been setup at Stanley Park in accordance with the Recreation & Community Facilities Master Plan.
Pétanque (pronounced pay-tonk) according to its entry on Wikipedia is in the category of boules sports. The objective according to the same page is “to score points by having boules closer to the target than your opponent after all boules have been thrown.” In that sense it shares common elements with the popular local pastime of curling. The game is also known as Boules (pronounced boolz) and traces its origins to France in the early 20th century.
The City says that the court is now available for seasonal use on a first-come, first-serve basis with participants being required to being their own ball.
