The folks behind the Grim Acres âScare Away Cancerâ Halloween Haunt have shared plans for this yearâs edition of the popular annual attraction and fundraiser.
What was initially in 2010 a spooky residential display within the city has continued to evolve as a truly full-fledged Halloween event. This year will feature four haunted attractions, a Kids CarnEVIL, concessions, laser tag, mini golf and more on a 9.2 acre site West of the city.
Among new attractions will be 'Phobia', a 1200 sqft maze in the kids CarnEVIL barn. The abandoned haunt will feature new additions âThe Awakeningâ and âBeyond Darkness.â There will now be a walkthrough outdoor âPumpkin Hollowâ display and new kid games including new wireless laser tag units. Also added will be musical performances from local performers on an entertainment stage.
All will take place over four days from October 24-27 between 6 and 11pm. The first hour will run as a âno scare hourâ for young kiddos and those looking for a slightly scaled back experience.
Admission is free as always. Donations from attendees for the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully accepted. Last year several thousand attendees including 1700 on the final night alone, all contributing to $37,000 being raised between the Haunt and the separate Brave the Shave event. Thanks to those efforts the grand total raised over Grim Acresâ history now stands at $101,080.
Grim Acres is located just West of the city, South off of highway 1A before Kemnay. More info can be found at http://www.grimacres.ca
Separate to the main Grim Acres event, organizers will soon be hosting a Friday the 13th fundraiser on September the 13th as a kick off to Halloween. The 18+ event will feature music, door prizes, raffle prizes, 50/50 and more. Tickets can be bought for $10 at the temporary Rogers Red Wireless location by Kullbergs with proceeds going toward the 2019 Grim Acres build fund.
