Return of summer temps means a chance for an ice cream do-over

Posted by Adam in Dining, 9/13/2019

As summer comes to an end and Brandon’s seasonal ice cream spots eye the upcoming transition to fall, Mother Nature has a gift in store starting this weekend in what’s very possibly the last run of hot weather for 6ish months. Following Saturday’s Environment Canada forecast high of 21 degrees are scorchers of 28, 31(!!) and 29 respectively over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday... a stretch that’s likely to turn a lot of folks to their old friend ice cream for a last cool down or two before the great outdoors offer up all the chill one could ask for.

For those looking to get one last fix in, below are plans for each seasonal spot in the lead-up to closing up for the off-season.

305 18th Street North

Expected to be open to September 29th, weather-permitting. Check with the restaurant closer to that date!

Twisters recently switched to late season hours, which has them open from 2-8pm Monday through Friday and 1-8pm on Saturday and Sunday. These next few weeks will be last chance of season to make use of the patio that was added earlier this year.

Expected open until September 29th or October 4th, weather-permitting (please check with restaurant closer to these dates).

For the season they are featuring their pumpkin pie soft serve ice cream, available in a cone, blitz or sundae.

Not quite this weekend, but typically in their last week later in the month they conduct a sale of cakes and bags of novelties and discount hard ice cream.

Dairy Queen, seasonal location

904 18th Street

Expected open until October 6th, weather permitting.

While DQ’s Shoppers Mall and new Corral Centre locations will stay open year-round, the franchise’s long-time seasonal location will soon wind down with the weather. Seasonally featuring the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard.

Not this weekend, but starting September 23rd watch for an upcoming promotion of buy a blizzard, get one of equal or lesser value for 99 cents.

1405 1st Street

Expected open until October, exact date to be set (please check with restaurant closer to that date).

For the season Tastees are featuring their Pumpkin Pie Whip, which is vanilla ice cream blended with pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie spice. Not this week but watch for an end of season special coming up later this month.

The Batchery

Intend to keep hours of 1-8pm. Watch for signs at 1st and Richmond, 4th and Queens and 6th and Queens if open.

With focus on this weekend specifically, on Friday through Sunday at Food Truck Warz the Winnipeg-based truck will be serving a variety of ice cream and swiss ice.
