‘A Dog’s Weekend’ to kick off 2019 season for Evans Theatre

Posted by Adam in Entertainment, 9/14/2019

Evans Theatre has an offer that I suspect many local pet lovers will find hard to refuse as part of the start of its 2019 season next weekend.

The volunteer-run theatre has shared plans to screen both comedy-drama adventure film A Dog’s Purpose and it’s 2019 sequel A Dog’s Journey over the Friday through Sunday stretch of September 20, 21 and 22.

A Dog’s Purpose, which stars Dennis Quaid, of course has particular local significance for scenes that were filmed locally in the Brandon, Virden and Minnedosa areas during the summer of 2015. A Dog’s Journey, also featuring Quaid, returned to the Province to film. The latter saw its theatrical release in May of this year.

The initial movie will screen at 7:30pm on the 20th. Then on Saturday the 21st the two movies will show back-to-back at 6:30pm and 9:00pm respectively, to be followed by an additional screening of the sequel on Sunday the 22nd at 7:30pm.

Admission is the theatre’s standard $6 with all profits from the weekend’s screenings going to the trio of Brandon Humane Society, Funds for Furry Friends and Strays that Can’t Pay. Concessions are sold at a super reasonable $2.

Evans Theatre is located in Brandon University’s George T. Richardson building with entry through the building’s main East-facing entrance. According to Evans’ website, parking is free in BU lots after 4:30pm on weekends and all-day on weekends unless otherwise indicated by signage.
