When the inaugural edition of Bran-Con gets underway on Saturday at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium, a unique local flavour will accompany the assortment of Artists, Creators, Media personalities and Cosplayers that have been secured for the two day event.
Local teacher and artist Curt Shoultz shared this morning that as part of his participation in the event he will be debuting the World’s Second Largest Comic Book. At a whopping 2 feet x just over 3 feet its most likely the biggest comic you or I will ever have the chance to lay eyes on, presumed to be bested only by the Brazil-based Turma da Mônica - O Maior Gibi do Mundo (2 ft 3.5 inches x 3 feet 3.29 inches).
The book will be available for reading at Shoultz’s location at Booth 12 in the lobby at the WMCA on both Saturday and Sunday.
Also featuring on the weekend will be a light horror comic titled Comeuppance created by local cartoonists. Sold at a cover price of five dollars, the amount paid will go directly to the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba.
Among the talent featuring over the weekend will be escape artist Dean Gunnarson, voice actors Kat Kressida, Livvy Stubenrauch and Eva Bella as well as artists Dawn McTeigue, Sam de la Rose, Mike Rooth, Nyko Rudolph, Joe Rubenstein and Justin Currie.
Advance tickets are on sale on the event website for $20 for a day pass or $35 for a weekend pass. Kids under 6 get in free and there is also the option to download a free ticket for Sunday for kids age 6-12. Though its recommended buying tickets in advance to avoid the risk of lineups, admission can also be purchased at the door on-site on each day.
