Posted by Adam in Local News, 10/22/2019

A 63-year old woman has died and a 63-year old man is in Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre in critical condition this morning after a house explosion that Police say took place at 7:50pm on Tuesday evening in Brandon’s Green Acres neighbourhood.

Brandon Police had advised of their responding to an emergency on Queens Avenue East just after 8pm on Tuesday night:

Further update came via Police at 10:10pm when residents in the immediate area were allowed to return after having earlier been evacuated from their homes:

Police provided additional update early Wednesday morning as the section of Queens Avenue East remained closed:

Information on cause was not yet confirmed with the incident remaining under investigation on Wednesday morning according to a Brandon Police media release. Manitoba Hydro had referred to the event in a tweet Tuesday night as a "probable gas explosion" though by Wednesday morning that tweet had been removed and a Hydro spokesperson commenting that it is premature to speak to cause.

In reference to the strength of what took place at the location, one account from an area resident in an eBrandon post indicated that their home two blocks away had shook and windows rattled alongside the sound of an explosion.

This post will be updated as further information becomes available. Ongoing updates can be found in the eBrandon discussion thread at this link.
