Final preparations are now underway for Brandon’s annual Santa Claus Parade, scheduled to take place this coming Saturday in what are expected to be just about as ideal of weather conditions as you could ask for.
Organizers tell me that by the time all is said and done there are expected to be close to 50 participants between floats and vehicles taking part. The parade is scheduled to start at 6pm at the intersection of 6th street and Rosser Avenue, proceeding West down Rosser toward 17th Street and turning South. It will then turn East down Princess toward 6th Street before a final turn toward 6th and Rosser’s initial starting point. Based on past years, on average it takes about 30-35 minutes for the full parade to pass.

Folks attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, to be collected by Canada Post in their food drive for Christmas Cheer. Canada Post will also be collecting letters for Santa.
A handful of awards are given out based on judging including Best Parade Theme, Best Decorated Vehicle, Best Commercial Float, Best Community Spirit and Most Original. A People’s Choice award is also given out based audience reaction.
Organizers have said that they would appreciate if visitors not enter the parade marshalling area on Rosser to the East of the parade starting point (1st to 6th street) in the interest of safety and getting all floats arranged.
There’s very encouraging news for this weekend in the forecast with a coming weather pattern change that’s expected to bring above-seasonal temperatures to the area. As of the time of this posting Saturday’s daytime high is forecast to be plus-3 and overnight low is to be minus-6. As always its best to check the most recent forecast for most accurate info.
For those still wanting to take part by entering a float or vehicle at no charge, registrations can be put in as late as end-of-day on Thursday. To request a registration form please email cmphillips56 (--at--) gmail.com or sawatzky-dyck (--at--) westman.wave.ca.
