Holland-area home ushers in holiday season with 30,000 light display

Posted by Adam in Entertainment, 12/12/2019

With less than two weeks to go until Christmas, one of if not the most elaborate residential holiday light displays in Southwestern Manitoba is live for the season.

At a whopping estimated 30,000 lights strong, Bolack Lights is charmingly located at the base of a ravine near Holland about an hour away from Brandon. That location provides a pretty great vantage point to take in the approximately one hour music+lights show from the top of a hill, contrasted against the otherwise dark surroundings of the countryside.

The display is spearheaded by homeowner Rob Bolack, an electrician/electrical technologist by day. First started in 2011 as a setup of approximately 8,000 - 10,000 lights, it's grown over subsequent years to approximately 28,000 last year and now 30,000 in 2019. The switch was turned on this year on Saturday to co-incide with Holland's Santa Claus parade.

The show, which plays its audio through FM frequency 88.7, runs from 5pm to midnight nightly through January 5th. If considering making the drive, since there is some off-beaten-path gravel road driving involved I’d be remiss if I didn’t go into city dad mode and advise to please be aware of weather and road conditions and travel in a vehicle that you trust to be ably equipped for those conditions.
