Columbia Street and First Avenue in Rivers was a flurry of activity on Thursday as staff, management and crews worked on finishing touches on Westman’s soon-to-be newest hotel.
The hotel, which opens for its first booked guests on Friday evening, will operate as the first under the name Blue Crescent Hotel. Alongside 30 guest rooms of various configuration and size are amenities that include a continental breakfast, fitness room, meeting room as well as smaller guest-focused touches such as a dedicated hockey equipment storage area.
The development captured its share of interest in November thanks to a unique modularized development process that saw the property go from foundation to standing building over the course of two days via 23 pre-built modules. Since that time work has been done from inside the assembled building, including connecting utilities, elevator installation, the installing of hallway and stairway flooring and the arrangement of furniture. Efforts also took place on the exterior in installing siding and brick with signage planned to go up later on Thursday. Some post-opening paving and landscaping work is to follow with the arrival of spring temperatures.
Friday’s first day comes just in time for this weekend’s Rural Tournament of Champions hockey, highlighting one of many potential varieties of guests that the venture expects to serve. Being located just down the street from the Riverdale Community Centre, Blue Crescent is expected to accomodate guests attending events in Rivers not unlike this month’s Scottie’s Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship. The town’s key location as a crew change location for the railway also creates meaningful need for lodging.
The hotel is located on First Avenue in Rivers, just down the road from the Riverdale Community Centre
Online booking is setup at https://bluecrescenthotels.ca, with room rates generally observed to range from $131.99 to $185.50 prior to any applicable CAA, corporate or group discount.
The Blue Crescent Hotel brand has been created by developer Steel Creek Developers for its clients. The brand is expected to continue to grow in presence in the coming years with a second hotel opening in Grenfell, Saskatchewan in the spring and as many as three more expected in Manitoba over the next two years.
The Rivers location employs eight. A more formal grand opening celebration is planned for Sunday, January 19th beginning with a ribbon cutting at 2pm. A public open house will follow until 6pm, giving those interested a chance to view the building and its various room configurations.
