Professional building ownership aims to attract new clinic to Downtown

Posted by Adam in Local News, 1/17, 1:45 PM

A professional building in Brandon’s core area long associated medical services is hoping to one day soon once again be home to one or more practicing physicians on its main level.

The building known as Medical Centre Building on Downtown’s 6th Street had for nearly 50 years been home to a long-time local clinic until a 2015 relocation to a separate area of the city. Since that time the space occupied by the clinic has sat largely vacant save-for limited use by short-term tenants.

As part of what’s seen as a need for further medical services in a highly populated area of the city, efforts of building ownership to attract a future practice have been stepped up in recent weeks including retaining the services of local community advocate and medical professional John Jackson to aid in the search.

The building’s main floor remains setup with a waiting area and offices, potentially well-suited in whole or in part to a future practice. Super Thrifty’s Medical Centre Pharmacy continues to operate from adjacent, connected space. A prospective practice would be able to offer clients parking in the lot on the building’s North side in addition to traditional Downtown street parking available in the area.

In the event an eventual tenant is secured, a quick possession is possible be it to use the space as-is or to renovate to meet needs.

The area between 1st and 18th Street, Victoria and Pacific Ave was home to approximately 4820 residents in 2018 according to Economic Development Brandon estimates, numbers that swell to 7966 when accounting for daytime population at work.

The Medical Centre Building is located at 144 6th Street. Presently located on its upper level are Bright Side Dental as well as OMLC Vision Centre.
