Well into preparations for the upcoming 2020 baseball season, the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks have confirmed today that a key part of their inaugural season in the city will be returning this spring and summer.
The ever-versatile Cody Kehl has committed to playing for the ball club again this coming year, one year after earning club MVP and Expedition League All-Star status.
Kehl is listed as a 2nd baseman, having batted for a .309 average with ten doubles in 58 games last season. The Quincy, Washington native showed his versatility in also pitching more than 14 innings for the club in 2019.
Also returning from last year’s team is catcher Lucas Allen of Bellevue, WA. The Jacks have confirmed a handful of additional player additions over the winter including infielder El Rico Riley of Atlanta, GA, pitcher Carter Coats of Greenbrier, AR and pitcher Chris Giovengo of San Diego, CA among many others. The team announced Alabama's Walker Bullington as head coach in September.
The Whiskey Jack season is scheduled to begin on May 26th when the club hosts the 2019 league champion Badlands Big Sticks at Andrews Field. The sporting world has moved into a state of uncertainty as a result of measures taken in the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. At present, ownership and league executive are monitoring the situation closely though are currently working towards a May 26th start to the season.
