Photo Gallery: Spring brings return of bird variety to Brandon skies

Posted by Adam in Recreation, 4/22/2020

I’ve never considered myself a ‘birder,’ in fact far from it. To get me to identify anything beyond maybe a Robin or a Blue Jay has generally been an exercise in futility with perhaps a little comedy on top for good measure.

That’s taken a hard 180 turn this month after the perfect storm of everything that’s going on in the world right now collided with this discussion thread originally started by eBrandon member 'Skinny Moon' as a way of highlighting the transition of seasons. When combined with a long lens capable of taking pics from a distance it’s turned out to be a fun little outdoor project that allows everything to be done from a safe distance often from within the comfort of the car.

Thanks to a camera that I like to say makes me look like a better photographer than I am I’ve had the good fortune of capturing a collection of shots of some of our resident feathered friends along with some that just happen to be passing through as part of seasonal migration. Thanks to a handful of members much more skilled and experienced than I at watching the skies who are sharing pics and wisdom of their own in the same discussion I’ve slowly pieced together more of an understanding of what I and others have been taking pics of.

Some of the better pics are included in the gallery below. Please feel free to check out the attached discussion thread if you have thoughts or pics of your own that you’d like to add!
