Weekend 'driving car show' to express support for frontline workers

Posted by Adam in Driving, 4/28/2020

Though Brandon’s first Cruise Night of 2020 has been cancelled in lieu of measures in place to limit public gatherings as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, local car enthusiasts will this weekend have the opportunity to take their passion to the roads of Brandon as part of a planned social-distance-friendly display of support for frontline workers.

Organized by Brandon Area Care Enthusiasts and Brandon’s Road Rebels car club, the Rollin Covid Appreciation Tour will see a consortium of collector, classic, special interest and other vehicles that you might otherwise see at Cruise Night drive routes throughout Brandon that will include personal care homes, seniors apartments, retirement homes, businesses and residences.

It’s been emphasized that the undertaking is not a parade with obeying traffic laws continuing to be a must. Drivers are asked to stay in vehicles and observers along routes watching from their homes/properties or from within parked vehicles in lieu of social distancing. Being mindful of the present public health environment, there should not be any gathering on sidewalks or approaching of vehicles for viewing.

Participating vehicles are asked to meet in the Westvic Common parking lot at 34th St and Victoria Ave with time to spare in advance of the cruise’s 1pm start time on Sunday, May 3 in order to receive instructions and route details. Drivers are to stay in vehicles, where information on routes will be distributed to them.

It is expected that Sunday’s routes will be published on BACE’s social media by the weekend. This post will also be updated with further details when known.

Vehicle processions through the city have become a highlight of recent weeks, with numerous city schools and personal care homes organizing drives of their own through neighbourhoods and past local facilities.
