Four Brandon patios that are opening on Monday

Posted by Adam in Dining, 5/3/2020

After more than a month of having indoor dining spaces closed, the Province of Manitoba has permitted Manitoba restaurants to open adjacent patios beginning Monday, May 4 provided that social distancing measures are in place in consistency with action being taken to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus within the province.

Restaurants that do choose to open patios are required to adhere to guidelines for both staff and customers intended to have service carried out within physical distancing boundaries. This includes but isn’t limited to restrictions on entry into the business, lineups, size of gatherings in common spaces or at tables and a two metre/six foot separation between tables. All guidelines outlined by the province for restaurants can be seen at https://manitoba.ca/covid19/restoring/phase-one.html#restaurants

In what would might not quite be traditional patio season in the city, Brandon restaurants are taking varying approaches with some choosing to offer patio service and others waiting until a later date and continuing to offer delivery and takeout. Below are five that have confirmed that they will have patio seating beginning on Monday in addition to their respective delivery and takeout options:

Aaltos/Tavern United at Canad Inns

Canad Inns has confirmed that they will be opening their restaurant patio beginning on Monday. Hours will begin at 11am daily and continue until 10pm depending on weather (it is likely that closing will be earlier during the initial week due to cooler weather). Will be offering both the Aaltos and Tavern United menus. Seating will be offered on a walkup basis only.

East Side Mario’s

East Side Mario’s will be offering limited patio seating over the hours of 11:45am-9pm Sunday through Thursday, 11:45am-10pm Friday and Saturday. The restaurant will be serving from its full menu. The restaurant is accepting reservations either by phone at 431-210-2065 or through the Open Table app.

Montanas

Patio to open with re-configured seating beginning Monday. Hours will be Sunday-Thursday from 12-8pm, Friday and Saturday from 12-9pm. Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis with no reservations. Heaters will be setup, though its still advised to dress warmly.

Original Joes

Will be opening outdoor patio beginning Monday with limited seating available. Tables available on a walk-up basis with no reservations available. Patio hours will be 11am-9pm daily, weather dependant.

Not yet opening patio seating

Browns Socialhouse initially planned to open Monday and have according to a restaurant representative been cleared to do so by Manitoba Health. The restaurant will however be unable to open it’s patio for the time being after being denied by the LGCA. Efforts continue to be underway be able to open in the not too distant future. Takeout and delivery remain available.

Additional restaurants have confirmed to me in recent days that they will not yet offer patios. Those include Prairie Firehouse, The Dock on Princess, Georgies and Boston Pizza (North and South) and Chilli Chutney. Please consider supporting these and other establishments where possible through their respective takeout and delivery services.

Also permitted to open with restrictions as part of phase one of the Province’s Restoring Safe Services on Monday are retail businesses, outdoor recreation facilities including golf courses, hairstylists and barbers as well as museums, galleries and libraries. A future phase two would take place no sooner than June 1 and pending evaluation of the first phase may see further easing of restrictions including the potential allowing of indoor restaurant seating at reduced capacity. For more details on Manitoba’s Pandemic and Economic Roadmap to Recovery one can visit https://manitoba.ca/covid19/restoring/index.html

Through Sunday, the Province has reported 281 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases to-date including 17 in the Prairie Mountain Health region. The most up-to-date information on the presence of the virus in Manitoba and the response to it can be learned at https://manitoba.ca/covid19/
