Newest crosswalk design marks return of Downtown program

Posted by Adam in Driving, 7/17/2020

Last summer, Downtown Brandon put more than a couple smiles on faces with the addition of a handful of creatively designed crosswalks along the area’s highest-traffic streets. It was a great, minimal-cost way to add a little personality to the core area, and more importantly support the idea of downtown as a pedestrian-friendly zone.

This summer the program in collaboration with the City of Brandon is back with livened up crossings in place at a total of eight crossings at intersections with Princess and Rosser Avenues.

Newly added to more than one of the intersections is a “bear claw” design that makes for a nice departure from the usual traditional crosswalk. Also featured prominently are the “I Heart Downtown” and “Piano keys” themes that had been in place last year, the latter having been the centrepiece of a locally viral video last year that successfully presented the core in a new light.

With wear and tear from the elements, the crossings require regular refreshings… something done earlier in the summer this time around to allow a full season of use.
