As the Brandon Wheat Kings work on plans for the long-awaited return of junior hockey action to Westoba Place, this website has joined forces with the local hockey club in bringing a Western Hockey League first to the Wheat City.
“Fans in the Stands” gives local hockey fans the chance to have a cardboard cut out of their choice placed in the familiar seats of the local arena for home games of the planned upcoming season. To have a cut out featured of someone such as yourself, a family member or a favourite pet you simply need to upload an image using a form hosted on eBrandon. The Wheat Kings will take things from there, having your image professionally printed and placed at the rink.
For anyone that’s seen the same general promotion in use at Major League Baseball games, it makes for quite the cool and unique atmosphere at a time when an arena packed full of 5,000 hockey fans is not an option.
Cost of each submission is $50, with proceeds going to the Brandon Wheat Kings Foundation. When 1,000 cut out sales are reached, the club will make a donation to a local charity.
eBrandon has a long history with the Wheat Kings dating back more than 15 years when the site was first launched. It’s fun to have a chance to help out with bringing something a little different to Westman at a time when so many aspects of day-to-day life have been turned upside down.
The Western Hockey League announced last month that the upcoming season is scheduled to open on Friday, January 8. The Wheat Kings will play a schedule that consists of games amongst the seven Manitoba and Saskatchewan-based teams in the league’s East Division.
