2026 - Development Officer - FT Term

Applications are invited for a Development Officer to join the Department of Advancement & Alumni Affairs for a full-time, one-year term. We are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative individual who is eager to support fundraising initiatives through meaningful alumni and donor engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Development Officer works collaboratively with colleagues in the planning and implementation of fundraising initiatives. This role focuses on building relationships with donors, alumni, and community partners to secure financial support through major gifts, annual giving, and special campaigns. The Development Officer identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors and prospects - including individuals, corporations, and foundations - through visits and other forms of personal contact. The Development Officer conducts research to develop strategies that match donor interests to the priorities of the University and prepares proposals, reports, correspondence, and other development-related communication materials in support of fundraising goals. The Development Officer ensures effective management of donors, prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers through appropriate use of donor and alumni databases and institutional resources and assists with and supports departmental, alumni, and BU-related activities and events as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a one-year post-secondary certificate in communications, business, marketing, or a related field, along with at least one year of relevant experience in fundraising, advancement, development, alumni relations, or related role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The position requires demonstrated knowledge of donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, as well as strong research, writing, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information. Experience with donor or alumni databases and other institutional systems, or the ability to learn new systems quickly, is an asset, along with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Availability to assist with events and activities, including occasional evening or weekend commitments, is required.

Salary: Managers & Professional Officers, MPO IV - $84,229.00
