But how can a person keep their perishables at a safe consistent temperature without a fridge?
Same as if your furnace stopped or the water tank. Someone is still going to come to your home and replace the unit.
Have you listened to the provincial bulletins at 1pm daily? Although the doctor tells us to stay home as much as possible he does say that people still need to consult with their doctors regarding any health concerns they may have. Common sense. I would hate for a person to think they cannot not get medical advice. Phone consults can work fine but not in all cases. "
John, I'm quoting you because you're saying some of what I want to say to farmergeorge from the previous thread.
I get that life is different. I'm embracing it actually, because I know it's necessary. We're not finding it a particular hardship, but there's quirks that we've having a hard time finding work-arounds.
You also have to realize that there are necessities beyond roof-food-medicine. I have to keep my kids in at least some clothes. I repaired my oldest son's pants - again - although at this point I should probably just cut them off and hem them they're flood pants anyway and the knees are so gone there's nothing left for the patch to hold on to. I measured them today - they have all grown between 1.5 & 2 inches since January. I expect none of their shoes will fit. Thankfully we're pretty much just hanging out in the yard, but they still need footwear. These are not wants, but needs.
I need to buy at least some basic school supplies. All their stuff from the fall is trapped at school. I have an obligation to continue their education the best I can with their teacher's guidance, but I don't have duplicates of all those items - thankfully we've been making do so far.
I agree with the lockdown, but I'm also feeling a little panicky about the restrictions getting tighter and tighter. Things that I deem a "necessity", like hardware stores, are getting closed down in Ontario. I'm not doing a renovation, but what if I need to do a critical repair?
That being said, the Chamois car wash in Winnipeg shut down on April 1st as it's not an "essential business", but it's planning on reopening next Monday for exterior washes and full detailing only. Car washes do NOT rank particularly high on my "essential" list.
