JessieJay said "That is why I booked at the pharmacy for my and my family to get our boosters. The Keystone booking site did not specify which vaccine was available/offered and we did not want anything by Pfizer. At the pharmacy we booked for Pfizer and that's what we got.
Farmergeorge-deworming drugs get rotated to avoid making worms resistant. Flu vaccines change to match the type of virus that is most common each year-it isn't due to drug resistance. They are trying to give older people Moderna to save the Pfizer for younger people. There has been nothing suggesting combining the 2 different mRNA vaccines gives better immunity-in fact most places are still saying g to try and stick to the same one.as you had before but if you have to switch, oh well, it still works. I've never been sure their talk of mix and match was ever based on real scientific knowledge or they were just hoping for the best. As for taking the first shot available, no, I absolutely would not take AZ due to a health condition I have (my stance on that has been confirmed by multiple medical practitioners) and for the same reason I will not take Moderna.
As for what happened before, I think that refers to the fact that some people followed the advice to take the first vaccine offered, then they had to start over with a different brand when the first brand was not recognized for travel. No point in doing mix and match and then learning that the combo is not valid after all. "
I'm reasonably sure that over the course of our lifetimes, we receive a variety of vaccines from a variety of manufacturers, depending on what's available and where we're receiving our doses.
It's generally accepted for most vaccines, and frankly, most medications, that brands can be readily mixed and matched unless there's a specific reason not to.
I can only receive Pfizer due to known allergens being present in both Moderna and AZ. That's a legitimate reason, as I'm sure you have as you said you've discussed this with your physician.
Studies are actually suggesting that the most robust immune response is actually from people who have had more than one type, especially viral vector (like AZ and J&J) followed by a mRNA (like Pfizer and Moderna).
