It's quite common to see people complain about service on ebrandon and that us servers have to make sure we give 120% of our all to make sure you come back to our restaurant and make sure that everything is fine. This video is a great video on how servers feel.. It isn't easy doing what we do to impress.

If this is truly how you feel about your job I can see why your customers treat you like garbage. You obviously don't care about your customers they are paying for accurate prompt service which you seem to think is an inconvenience on you, but that is what you are being paid to do. Maybe your boss doesn't value the work you do because you are worthless as an employee!!!!! I know waitresses that make over 400$ a day in tips but there service is valuable, they remember your name, if you order the same drink every time you come in it is delivered without asking, if I order blue rare they check that my steak isn't cooked till shoe leather.

..into a nightmare but YES. between being a server and a bank teller I have never been treated like less like a human. Two of the most thankless jobs out there

Get a new job! Do you think gas attendants like their jobs? How about people in the slaughter house or those that clean public toilets. You basically bring out food and take orders, if you want A less thankless job and more money, go to school. A tip is something earned for exceptional service. Otherwise I'm not paying someone a big tip for doing their job 'just cause'.

I have generally been quite fortunate to have received good service from most waiters and waitresses. I also tip fairly consistently at the 18 to 20% level when I receive such service, I realize it can be a thankless job, yet I for one am thankful for those that go into such a profession. There will always be people who feel that people who are waiting on them should not expect a tip yet although I have never held such a job, I do realize many lives are affected based on the tip left and it is considered part of their pay.

I sit here and see you guys festering in anger again the ones bashing me.. Don't know me! I make a pretty penny, where I just bought a house, paid full brand new cars and am taking a trip on Saturday to Mexico! My service is great! That's all I know and guess what, I'm proud of that and happy that I don't care if I get tipped as I agreed to work minimum wage the tip is a bonus.  
 
This video is to show you "cranky" customers on how demanding our job is... But get ticked off when were not there kissing you feet after a hard days work. Maybe the cranky ones ^^^ should readjust their attitudes and realize how you make others feel.

The OP posted this in a HUMOROUS way. Lighten up people. Enjoy the video and take note that servers work hard and if you respect them, they will respect you.  
 
I have never been a server, but I respect them for killing out a living as a servant for many.

So do you tip the garbage man, plumber, mechanic, teller at the bank your original post implies you are/so hard done by in your job but since you can afford trips abroad you must have enough money to treat all the service people around you the same as you feel you are entitled to.

I'm sure servers love serving you!!  
 
It's tough, but my job is rewarding.. I have people come out of their way to come see me everyday, every other day once a week and request my section. And to feel so loved and liked I know I'm doing my job well.. My job is very rewarding to be me!!  
 
We do come across cranky customers and you can feel their energy right from the start. But this video is exactly how I felt! Love my job but am numb to customers looking to get a free meal.

Servers work hard, dammit. They are whistled at and summoned to serve people. Treat them with respect and you will get better service as it's common sense,  
 
Treat others as you would like to be treated. It's not rocket science, people!

Not once in my original post did I mention tips. So please keep the comments about tips to yourself.. This is about what servers deal with.

The video talks about tips, you said the video is how servers feel. And I for one, treat servers and all service based professions with nothing but respect.

The comment "you don't like it, leave" why so you can still demand and pick on minimum wage servers?!?

This is the thread. That's it. For anyone who doesn't quite grasp this, start a new one wondering about tipping which has been dicussed hundreds of times before with the same outcome,  
 
Servers should be treated with respect, no different than any other profession. They are not your servants. Some of them work so damned hard you would be exhausted at the end of their day.. If they are cranky, maybe they are sick and tired of ignorant people that treat them like sub-human.  
 
What goes around, goes around. I think the video the OP posted is worth a look viewing for fun and for those who are working to pay the bills and trying to keep a roof over their heads.  

Considering the statement before the video stated that Servers in the US make an average of $2.13 an hour, and servers here make almost $10 more than that an hour, I guess the OP has just proven that we don't need to tip up here in Canada . You already make almost 5x what they make down south, you must be so thankful that you've got it so much better up here.

Yes, that's true, however don't forget that servers tip out. I've seen tip outs as high as 80 dollars going to the kitchen and bar staff. So when it comes down to it, if every table didn't tip their server the standard 10 to 15% of their, it could honestly cost that person money to go to work after 7 or 8 hours of running around.

The OP did not mention tips. The video may have. BUT!! the OP was putting the video up with the intention of opening peoples eyes to how they treat their serving staff from a humorous perspective. You may not be one of those jerks that is rude to a server but it's SHOCKING how rude some people are. EVERY HUMAN has feelings, even the ones who don't act like it.

There are two types of people in this world. There are those that recognize and appreciate when someone is doing something for them even though it is paid. The second group are those who see others in a subservient role and relish in acting superior. Those people suck to deal with but it is part of life. #karma

No doubt.....And that is probably after tipping out and claiming every tip on income tax too. I make my wife tip as in most food places I don't see much beyond what is expected from their job description.

Aside from the video, I think 'Mygirlandme' is insinuating the issue of tips by posting the following line:"...servers have to make sure we give 120%...". Also, the article clearly mentions ...minimum wage in America is $2.13 per hour plus tips.  
To me that means I have to pay the bill plus owe the server another 20% just because she's doing her job as she suppose to.  
I can think of a lot of other service workers in different fields who have to deal with disgruntled customers and get nothing in tips. Just try working in a call center for a day.  
So why do servers think they deserve a special treatment?  
 
'leapyear', are you saying that servers actually have to pay 10-15% per table to other staff just by assuming each customer pays a tip? I have never been a server but I find that argument ridiculous. Who would accept to work under such conditions? If the server does not get a tip, it might not be the servers fault but maybe the food was unsatisfactory. So, how does the kitchen staff still deserves a share of a tip that hasn't been given?  
On the other hand, you are mentioning $80 max. being paid to staff. That would be just 20% of as much as $400 in tips 'tafeel' is mentioning. Still $320 (tax free?) left for the server a night. Not a bad deal on top of $10/hour!  
 
OP, just stop complaining and deal with it. Obviously, you're making a good living (owning more than what I can afford). Too many people have to deal with customers in a bad mood once in a while and get no extra payout for it. You should be happy (and not demanding) that you get tips.  
OP, you're not doing your fellow waiters / waitresses a favor with posts like yours. Showing entitlement reminds me to be rather 'stingy' with my tipping.

It did not sound to me the post was for humorous and but video was in exaggeration because the woman server had an attitude herself same as her customers. I could be wrong but it will very few customers would raise and talk as shown on video. Where ever you have customers you will always have rude people to deal with so not only servers. If you do not like be server do not take the job. I never tip but I never complained at any servers. If customers are not satisfied just cook your own food and stay home.

at first, the video was somewhat humourous. after not getting the desired reaction however, the backlash from the OP was of pure self-entitlement.

I can't watch the video (computer glitch), but from the OP's comments she is wanting to make people aware that servers have to deal with less-than-pleasant customers at times. Which shouldn't be surprising to the OP or to anyone - because EVERY job has less-than-pleasant customer/ patients/ clients/ students that make it more demanding. There are also less-than-pleasant servers/ cashiers/ clerks/ lawyers/ doctors/ nurses/ teachers/ etc/ etc. Tipping is a different subject. Just because you are a great 'insert job description here' does NOT automatically mean you should get a tip. Just because you are a cranky 'insert person recieving a service here' does NOT automatically mean you should get backlash from the person giving service.

Ya really hey. If they can afford all that, I'm sure many people are going to quit their jobs and start waitressing to live that lifestyle!  
 
What my boyfriend and I discussed once, say you eat at a restaurant and spend 100.00 before tax. You think your waiter did a fine job, no complaints. You tip 20.00. Now say he also got paid (roudned off) 10.00 for that hour in wages. Now he just made 30.00 for one hour. If he made 30.00 per hour for 40 hrs a week for a year, his gross would be 62400.00. Maybe that's what you make. Now can you justify them making 30 dollars an hour and you making that (whatever you might due - insert job here). But you will pay taxes on your salary, they only will on the 10.00 wages. And maybe a small tip out. Now is it fair to assume that they maybe had 3 or 4 tables that hour? Did they make 60-80.00 plus 10.00 that hour? One could also argue that - but of course we know most servers don't work 40 hrs per week and if they do it's not prime tables that full 8 hrs a day.  
 
And no slight to serves, this world needs doctors, teachers, servers, mailmen, etc - we need everything - but I firmly believe that wages should be based on things like education required, experience required, risk involved, etc. Unfortunately, this world does not work that way.

but my feeling is that everyone that is employed has probably experienced some difficult customers. In my youth I worked in retail, that certainly had its share of abuse but even now I work in business and my years of university and qualifications do not make me immune to difficult people. Im sure most professions can say the same. Teachers, nurses, etc  
 
On the subject of tipping though. I struggle with it as I have never been tipped in my life. My feeling is that you take a job based on your ability to do it, combined with enjoyment and wage. But don't expect others to subsidize you if its low. And again, as someone else already mentioned, if your not satisfied with your job, get another one!

My sister once sat at a restaraunt in the U.S. And had a good talk with her waitress about how this all works down there. Servers are exempt from minimum wage laws for a start. Lots of places, their tips are their only income. Her boss took off the top, every day, an amount for income tax that assumed she would bring in a certain amount in tips. Even if she did not bring that in, it was still deducted. It was possible on a slow day for her to work a shift and leave owing money. My sister asked her why she woulld work under those terms, and she said it was the only way to have health coverage, and jobs of any kind were hard to get where she lived.  
 
It's a horrible system. I would get cranky too.

Tipping is a case by case basis.  
 
I won't tip much if the bare minimum was done. I've tipped over 30% when someone clearly was trying to make sure our family had a great experience.  
 
I've also gotten service so crappy I didn't leave a nickel.  
 
In a perfect world I'd be paying more for my food and getting great service because the staff was getting paid well and being looked after by their employer.  
 
Until then, tipping is earned. I'm taking my family out to not have to worry about things. Attentive service + no attitude = good tip.  
 
Not looking for perfection, just appreciation for coming to the establishment.

I worked in the service industry for a few years while going to school. Never once did I "expect" a tip or treat customers differently based on tipping history. I did my best to be positive and friendly and keep my cool in stressful situations. This way I was excited when I got a tip but also not disappointed when I didn't. I feel as though receiving tips is a luxury that does not come with every profession and it seems to be taken for granted and often times turns into greed. I have seen far too many servers treat customers differently because they knew or they sensed that the table would not tip well enough.

I have repeatedly visited a few of the "big name" restaurants in Brandon and time and time again had poor service from the waiting staff, But had GREAT food. On average I get better service from the delivery drivers from the local pizza joints then I do from the waiting staff at the local restaurants. So who gets the better tip? The Pizza guy/girl does because they seem to take interest in me as a customer. I don't refuse to tip by any means but if you want 30% you've gotta do more than just look pretty in a dress or have slicked back hair and a smile!
