Okay the plow came by this morning and I thought yahoo but didn't plow much! Got out of the driveway and got stuck on CITY street because of all the soft snow that the city didn't clear! wth? Am I supposed to shovel city street now? Besides that the front end loader seen I got stuck out on city property but never gave it one swipe!  
Now I can't even park on my own property!

Nope, you don't have to. Nothing says you have to shovel the snow off the street.  
 
I do know that I spent a fair bit of time moving snow from city property both yesterday and today. It will make my life a lot easier over the next few days before city crews or nature can take care of the problem. I can now quite easily get into my property from both the front and rear.

This is brilliant. Why can't we all use others ideas to save us all money. Brilliant snow clearing without the driveway ridge.

you are not required to shovel the city streets. I am sure the crews are quite busy for the next few days. Too bad they (as you described) didn't do a good job!

First world problems.

Funny how business parking lots gets plowed first but if the streets arent cleared for people to get to those businesses, whats the point? School areas are not plowed either which i was surprised by.

Considering these businesses pay a premium to be cleared like that. How many big construction outfits are there doing private businesses? When you have millions tied up in equipment you need to keep them busy to pay them off. Being government we could keep a loader all year just for snow clearing without someone asking why? The city doesn't have to make money with their equipment as we have paid for it.  
 
What baffles me is we will plow the snow, then couple days later remove the snow. Other parts of the world remove snow as they plow. What will it add another day or so to the clean up vs an extra week of moving it around to pick it up again?

PAY private companies to clear their lots, have you not noticed this?  
 
People would be in an uproar if what you said was true! Lol.

I wish people would stop pushing their snow onto City streets. Hard enough to get around without the added piles off private property. I have two neighbours that don't seem to realize there is a by-law against pushing snow onto the streets.

Why not be a nice neighbor and remind them that they can't push their snow out on to the street? Although it should be fairly common sense, not everyone knows you can't do that. If it continues phone up by-law and it will be taken care of.

Most likely they don't have enough staff to do it all at the same time. They would need to hire more people which will cost us all more in taxes to pay wages. Let them clear the streets so they are passable then the crews can come clean it up off the boulevards. Who cares if it takes a week at least it gets done and reasonably quickly.

Off topic but I was wondering...are homeowners responsible for the sidewalk in front of their home? Or is it just common courtesy to do so?  
 
The kids and I went for a walk this morning and the 2.5 year old chose to just climb on top of the snow in places because it was too deep for his little legs We managed but it made me wonder. I’d say maybe every 4th house was shovelled and the rest were left as is even though their walkways were cleared.

Well finally got to talk to the charge hand, hmmm... tells me he will send someone by and punch a hole so I can access driveway. Loader comes north turns around stops in front and keeps going!  
 
Disturbing trend, city won't be plowing to the sidewalk, and it's about 15 to 20 feet of road, so if they don't plow there they don't have to make sure you can get out of your driveway.  
 
I don't know about anyone else but I hate being lied to! Especially from people who get paid from my tax dollars!

The last time I got stuck was about 44 years ago. VW bug, manual trans, no-one to help. Got it started, in gear, wedged a stick against the gas pedal so it would not stall, pushed myself out.  
 
It was a city street, but, I did not blame the city.

These streets are horrible! Not a plow in sight! Most streets you’re lucky to get down with your suspension still intact! It’s horrible !

I thought it was the city street you were stuck on after it was plowed, but your second post referred to the drive access not cleared out and the charge hand sent a loader around to clear the drive entrance. in any event I would give the charge hand a call back and meet him at the house, 2 items if they are accurate, poor job on the street as you got stuck ( make sure you show him the winter tires on your car, secondly the lack of a loader to clear your drive access even thought e plow operator swung past but did nothing.  
 
your next step should be a call to the city managers desk, and the operations manager, neither of them will be happy if what your say is accurate. I am sure they will expect an explanation from streets dept.

It is absolutely ridiculous the condition of the city streets! ZERO excuse for this imo!! I guess they blew the budget earlier in the season plowing off the boulevards when there was 2 inches of snow on them.

It has only been 12 hours since it quit snowing people!!! Let the operators do their jobs and they are going 24 hours.

My sidewalk is flush with the city road, measuring from where the sidewalk ends and the road begins is where the city left around 12 feet of snow. Why? I can get out of MY driveway but get stuck on the CITY road because the soft snow was not removed, even though the plow was on same street to clear the snow.  
 
Yes I did my emails and will tell you that the city came back to do a proper job.  
 
I mentioned my driveway because if the city decides to plow the street this way again the same problem will happen, I will get stuck on the CITY street.

you didn't comprehend what I said. The city crew did come by to plow the street but didn't do a proper job! Yes it was a boatload of snow but don't you think that the crew should do a proper job in the first place. I hardly think that they would be coming back to my street anytime soon to do a better job!

And back lane have both been done, very quickly and very thoroughly. My complimrnts to the city crews.

In my experience if you call and calmly and politely explain whatever the shortcoming is with the city's snow removal, they will come and fix it. I've had them show up within an hour of calling them to remove snow that they had piled on the sidewalk.

Is it your garbage day? Our back lane is always done first if garbage day is the next day.

i thought that they expressed themselves clearly and i tend to agree with them , a big snowfall takes a bit of time to clear to everyone,s expectations
