Use Crime Map with Care

The crime map really only tells you where the police have received reports of incidents. It doesn't tell you the nature of the reports, or who reported them.
For example, my particular street shows no crime. But our cars are rifled through regularly. I've lost track of the number of times I've come out to my vehicle to find the console open. Admittedly, it's because we forgot to lock the car, but I don't report it. This is a problem everywhere in Brandon and I am sure people have become so immune they don't report it.
When asking the question, which is the part of Brandon with the least amount of crime, you need to be more specific. Are you referring to property crime, violent crime, traffic stops, etc.? Property crime is everywhere but low level property crime is often not even reported. Domestic assaults are everywhere but I am willing to bet the vast majority go unreported. Don't even get me started on drug related offences. Sure, it may be more visible at the street level in the downtown, but it's everywhere. The high level drug dealers live in the wealthy areas. The current meth epidemic crosses all income levels.
You also have to consider where the police focus their attention. Interestingly, the area around the police station is a hot spot. Could that be because their presence is more concentrated around the police station so they stop more people around there?
The point is that the map only gives you a very high level impression of where crime is taking place but doesn't really tell you what is going on in those areas. There are many factors to consider.
Which neighbourhood should you live in - the one you want to live in. Be part of the neighbourhood, be part of the community, upkeep your house, and encourage others who want the same to live in your neighbhourhood and crime will go down because good people make good, safe, neighbhourhoods.
