Since when is it appropriate to ask businesses for donations on their social media pages. I am seeing more and more of it and wonder why. I saw one again today which triggered this post.  
I have been in charge of seeking donations for many many events over the years, some were huge others were smaller. It requires legwork, phone calls and visits. If you are too lazy to put that work in then don't volunteer.  
To go onto a company website or social media page and ask is ridiculous and rude. I personally would not even give you a response.  
Most companies have set budgets for yearly donations and set groups that they support. If you want to be i:ncluded in those groups you had better work on your approach.  
I think most companies, business owners and managers would agree.

Individuals, socials, small clubs and such.

I am a volunteer for a small club in Brandon. We always call or actually go into the business first and sometimes we are directed to message the FB page or email the manager/owner anyway. So many businesses are engaging their customers on FB/social media now a days.  
 
Another thought! We find more and more businesses are donating to wedding social raffle tables and telling our service club they have no more to give. Wondering your views on donations for personal wedding socials vs clubs and organizations who raise funds to donate to charity?

I think people ask for prizes from businesses that they don't even frequent and they expect something.This causes problems for more important things like clubs to get things..as far as I am concerned it's crap

Most requests come from people coming in to ask personally with a letter. We only give a limited amount per month. A follow up phone call is sometimes necessary to remind us. We usually do not give to wedding socials unless we know the person. I like to give to community groups or charities instead of socials. There are so many requests now that it’s impossible to donate to them all.
