I would just like to remind Brandon citizens of the "Nuisance By-Law" limiting the use of snowblowers (mowers, etc) between the hours of 22:00 and 07:00 in residential areas.  
This applies to residents, businesses, churches, ALL within residential areas.  
I understand the motivation to clear snow while one has the available time - but it is a by-law and it is common courtesy to keep noise down between those hours.

I think most snow removal companies work nights so the spots are actually clear of vehicles.  
 
Do you live beside somewhere that gets their snow done at night?

good luck. All companies in the business of snow clearing start in the early morning hours. Good luck enforcing this.

Some people work days, some nights. Ear plugs are your friend.

We had a neighbour that hired a snow/lawn care company to take care of their snow and lawn all year round. We contacted bylaw after they would snow blow at odd hours the 3 rd time. Sometimes 1 am ( the driveway they did was just outside my daughters bedroom). They would also snow blow paths to sheds, etc. So it wasn’t just a quick pass. Bylaw went and talked to them and told them to stop. So they started at 5:30 am. Bylaw went and talked to them again. There is a bylaw for it for a reason. The company was extremely rude as I tried to talk to them first before contacting bylaw. Bylaw said they should be using shovels at that hour instead of snowblower. Shovels are allowed at any hour.  
I also finally went and talked to my neighbour about it, and she had no idea when they were coming, and how much it disturbed our child’s sleep as well as ours. She was a sweet older lady, who’s bedroom was on the other side of the house and she couldn’t hear it.  
It never happened again after that from that company. Bylaws should definitely be enforced.

I have to ask - why are some companies/people using leaf blowers to clear snow? I'm not sure you could find a louder, more obtuse way to do it.

Leaf blowers are very efficient in removing snow. Shoveling always leaves a skin of snow. A broom is a waste of time. Blowers get in all cracks and as long as nobody has trampled the snow or it is not wet and heavy blowers clear paths in record time.

one night this summer our weird neighbor taped a flashlight to his hat and went and mowed his grass at 11pm to 12:30 am one evening. I blame bad drugs for this one. I called the rcmp and they said they can charge him..as they believed he may have been drinking and operating a gas powered machine and disturbing the peace ...I took my phone and recorded it...all you can see is a little white flashlight dot in the dark and hear him mowing gravel...hope he took out his windows LOL

Well a leaf blower is about 10x faster then shoveling and is even quieter than my snow blower. As long as the snow is light and fluffy the blower is the way to go by far.
