Did you contact the city about it or come here and posted first? If you havent contacted the city that's a good start!

I have contacted them, didn't seem like it was a priority to them. This area should be closed, because it a pretty deep drop. I had to go into oncoming lane to avoid it.  
 
The city needs to do a follow up ASAP! more ppl need to start complaining.

I have complained! I’ve heard from a few people that have went through it at a normal speed and fear they damaged they’re front end! It’s garbage that such a nasty hole like that would even be allowed to be left as is!

That’s a leftover from whatever repair work they were doing in the late fall(water main?). They filled it in, but I think were too late to lay down pavement.

I discovered that hole yesterday too! Nasty. Didn't notice it until I was right upon it. There is marking but it's across the street on the boulevard. (sarcasm)  
I reported it also.

That hole was just dug last week to repair a water service.

So why does it be need reported to be fixed, it shouldn't have been left like that in the first place!! if you rip up the street ... fix it !! At the very least mark the large hole in the street with signage, this is bad enough there should be a detour around it. People avoid this spot its bad, i hit it with my 4x4 truck and now i worried about a new noise in my suspension ... thanks city of brandon =(

So that is what that was. I assumed it a rut between plowed and unplowed frozen snow cover.  
 
Last summer I went though 2 inner tubes on account to bad infrastructure. One because of a pothole in the cross lanes somewhere between Mcdiarmid and 34th. The other on entering the 2 farm kids strip mall lot from 34th (not a pothole, but a lack of pavement). Neither of which I seen because it was late at night.

I too discovered this huge gem this morning on the way to work! By the time you see it, you’re already going over it. Somebody really dropped the ball on this one!

MPI shouldn't have to pay for it. The city of Brandon should be paying for it. Regardless if the deductible is paid or not, and regardless if your premium goes up or not.  
 
It is the irresponsibility of the city to leave it that way.

Trust me city won’t pay. I know of situations where City staff or subcontractors damaged property and they refused to pay. The we’re responsible but not liable?!?!?! What does that even mean?

The road crews that do work on it drop the ball a lot here! I’ve seen many times they’ll dig something up and than “fill” it , only to have it worse off than before! Often bad enough to damage your car!

A family member of mine hit this and now the car is basically parked because the front end is messed up and because of the city's incompetence will be having to spend her hard earned dollars on repairs instead of Christmas..Where were the signs???

Yes I agree someone really did drop the ball because I called right after they filled it and said well they need to come back and look at this. They never did apparently. Are usually get very good response from streets and roads!!!

Was wondering if anyone would have any pictures of the hole ?? I went threw it below the speed limit and didn’t see it until I hit it and damaged the front end of my car. Have to get new rims , tires , control arm as well as an alignment . I work at a shop and they are willing to help me take it to city of brandon to see if they can pay for the parts as there was no signage or anything alerting anyone of the road they dug up.

MPI doesn't subscribe to just writing cheques without investigating cause first. If the responsibility falls on the City of Brandon, then MPI will make the City of Brandon pay for your damages. MPI just collects the money from them and pays for the damages. It's how all insurance companies and underwriters work.

Hole fixed

I had my back window hit by a rock years ago from the mower in the yard next to my work. I called the city and told MPI what had happened. The city did pay for my deductible then. Hopefully they would cover it for negligence on their part.

I'm a little late to the party with this one, but for anyone that had been following this topic I came across this answer shared on Councillor Luebke's blog that he got in response to an inquiry about this area at the last council meeting before the holidays:

"RESPONSE (provided by Mark Yeomans, Director of Public Works)  
An excavation was undertaken at a residence to address a service line leak. The dig was done on November 28, 2018. The private underground portion was repaired by a private contractor and the City repaired the city portion on the street. The site in question in the 500 block of 13th Street has been filled and leveled twice by City staff as required when the surface becomes uneven or a safety concern.  
 
Winter excavations on City streets generally freeze solid quickly with  
normal winter temperatures resulting in minor settling issues until the  
thaw in the spring. The current winter season has seen warmer than  
normal December temperatures. While the warmer temperatures are  
being enjoyed by the residents of Brandon, our sewer and water excavation sites have been settling far more this winter than normal.  
 
The normal procedure that Public Works uses in excavation sites to  
monitor site settlement is as follows. The excavation site is added to an  
inspection list. The Sewer and Water section will regularly inspect the  
excavation sites on the inspection list for signs of settling. If signs of settling are noticed, then granular base or asphalt grindings will be added to the excavation and the area smoothed down by a loader or grader to ensure the site poses no traffic hazard."  

My front tires have been leaking like sieves ever since the day I went over this hole a month ago! I have to fill them every few days... who is responsible for the damage?

City will tell you to go through insurance. They are liable but not responsible. Lol
