Great idea but...Wait times for Superstore are at least a week!!

Walmart doesn't offer everything for pickup at the store.

Just had a look and demand does look to be quite high but as of right now on the delivery side of things there are time slots avail on Tuesday for SS. Friday morning for pickup.

For delivery had lots of open times when I looked at it yesterday. And I like that you can still get the sale prices from Walmart with it.

Walmart seems to be removing essential items from their website for shopping. For example some bread, flour, sugar, potatoes are no longer available to order.

On a quick look at the online options this morning... obviously a fluid thing that changes from hour-to-hour I'm sure, but:

-Walmart pickup has times open starting Thursday

-Superstore has some slots later on Friday

-Instacart (so any of Walmart, Superstore, SDM, MM Meats) is booking into Wednesday

-Don't forget about phone-based deliveries from Co-op and Sobeys West. At last chat I had with either store they were doing same-day delivery as long as orders were called in before cutoff time.

Now we will see how Superstore is with my order today.
My 2 cents, these large chains should be working to adapt their business to keep physical distancing. One employee packing pick-up and delivery orders per isle and going to curb pick-up or delivery for most of the business. Then only allowing 10 people in the store at a time for 15 minutes to grab and go. One customer out another gets in. They need to think of creative ways to keep going while being safe. This will force businesses to adapt.

So it looks like Walmart is now only taking pickup orders for 3 days out (all filled as of now but tomorrow’s a new day?)

Superstore booking into Saturday night

Instacart into Thursday afternoon

It sounds like strong demand has been seen for Sobeys West and Coop’s offerings too

Here's one that I think a lot of folks would want to know about..

Two Farm Kids is doing free delivery within Brandon on orders of $75 or more along with curbside pickup (no minimum). Online and phone-in orders available.

The store itself is also open normal hours with some bins (scoop-based) temporarily set as staff service only and their gravity bins disinfected regularly. Gloves and hand sanitizers are available.
Also not grocery, but Christies is delivering in-town as per normal and also offering curbside pickup.

Also not grocery, but another offering free in-town delivery is Rona... no minimum order value (They’re also doing free delivery outside of town within a radius of the city on Wednesdays for min $99 orders). The longer this goes on, the more valuable this could be for folks that are wanting to use the time for home renos if able.

Does anyone know what wait times are when picking up your groceries at superstore?

Like when you pick a slot between 6-7 pm for example: is it pretty punctual? Heard some people are getting emails that even if their slot is x time they shouldn’t go to store until notified by SS because they aren’t meeting those appointment times.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

In pre-COVID days, they were always within the specified slot, although sometimes it was in the later part of the slot (so 6:45 if it was 6-7). Yes, it's usually wise to wait until you get an email from them, because often there's substitutions etc.

Now days, I wouldn't be surprised if they have difficulty meeting the appointments at time. If you're in town, I would wait until you get confirmation - the store isn't more than 10 minutes away from anyone.

I finally managed to book a Walmart pickup slot but had to do it promptly in the morning for the new day that opened up. If you want a Saturday delivery for example, you’ll have to make your grocery purchase early This morning to get a spot before they’re all taken. One is already taken and it’s not even 8 am yet.

SkipTheDishes is offering contactless delivery. Dash might be too?

If you can’t get instacart or any other groceries, please Let me know and we can drop items off on your doorstep, if you’re open to that? I know I have noodles and tomato soup on hand

Just had a chat with Chris from Dash.
They are in fact offering contactless delivery. When you get to the point of checking out with your order you have the option to pick contactless delivery and then be more specific (leave at the door, ring bell, etc).

When your driver gets within 100m you'll get a text that they're getting close. If your delivery is contactless, after the driver makes the delivery you'll get another text from them and they'll watch to make sure you pick up the order.

A few other options with Dash...
- they've temporarily eliminated cash as a payment method
- also offer takeout as an option
- all drivers have hand wipes and sanitizer

On the topic of grocery delivery, I see that as of this morning Instacart is actually offering same-day delivery today (Wednesday) within 5 hours. Superstore has pickup slots beginning Sunday. Walmart appears to have now opened pickup up to 4 days in advance with plenty of slots for Saturday as of the time that I post this.

Update:
Sobeys West to keep up with demand has been able to open up delivery to 6 days per week (Mon-Sat) thanks to use of a vehicle from Fowler Nissan from across the street. Pretty cool example of neighbours working together to help out:

One more grocery delivery or pickup option... starting Monday Freshii is doing Freshii Essentials Grocery bundles. Info on what they're offering is at https://www.freshii.com/ca/en-ca/essentials

They're starting in Brandon on Monday and initially you'd call the store at 204-725-4124. You can pre-order for Monday today and then starting Monday you can order for any day going forward. For delivery orders, the delivery fee portion will be no charge this week and then will be $3 beginning the week after. Ordering is not yet avail in their app but they are hoping to have that added in the days ahead too.
This is separate from the free delivery they've been offering for the regular meal options that Freshii would normally offer.. that offer has been one of the better options you'll find to get a quick meal during this!

I see pictures on facebook of line-ups outside Superstore and controlling how many people enter and leave the store. I suggested this would happen last week and we need to adapt to more delivery and pick-up . My posts seem to have disappeared? It is better than lining up like cattle to a slaughter. People please use the technology available and pick-up or get it delivered from whichever store you choose. I have placed 3 orders with different stores in the last 2 weeks and all have been decent results in this tough time. Just stay away from people......PERIOD! Do the store workers a favor also. Less people in less chance they are in harms way. Yes The companies are increasing their wages but danger pay is not my idea of a good trade off.

Add one more store to grocery delivery that should be able to have an impact on keeping up with demand we're seeing in the community....

Safeway has added delivery and pickup from Monday through Saturday.
Orders can be phoned in with three hours notice to 204-726-8014.
Price is $5.50 to shop the order plus $4.00 to deliver it (or just the $5.50 if you do curbside pickup). Apparently no minimum order value.

Their isn’t enough workers to supply every individual in town doing delivery. Current wait on instacart when I tried to place an order yesterday was Thursday the earliest. If people want to practice safe social distancing and shop their own groceries, power to them. You don’t need to be so aggressive over the majority of people just going to get their basic needs.

We are asking stores to adapt and we should adapt along with them for the sake of their employees. I personally placed an order late Sunday Night with Wal-Mart for pick-up and I could have picked up Tuesday late or Wednesday early. Those were my choices. To me that is excellent. Sure you have to plan ahead but you can continue to add to the order right up until the day before. Pretty good service. If you can shop for groceries then you can definitely pick-up curbside and save the delivery for the people who absolutely need delivery. Grocery stores are hot zones regardless of social distancing. That is a fact.

For Walmart I'm looking at a Saturday afternoon pick up (so 5 days). Superstore has a couple monday afternoon slots open, but its more likely to be a Tuesday spot (so 6 or 7 days away). Superstore wont let you change your order after you send it with how busy they are, but its good to know Walmart will.

SS will allow changes 48 hours before your pickup. They initially said you couldn’t edit after you placed the order but they changed it to 48 hours

I just placed my Superstore order for next Wednesday. They had most things on my list at the moment (who know about next week when they actually pick the order...)

What I can't understand is why there's still no toilet paper. It's been so long they surely must have been able to grow some new trees by now!

For Safeway, Sobeys, Coop orders are phone-in. Sobeys West will also process by email but need to call ahead first for those details and to sort out payment.

Add another pickup option...
Starting tomorrow (Friday) Bulk Barn will be offering online ordering through their website for customer pickup. Customer picks out the itens they would like for their order online through the website, then the store will have it ready for pickup same-day as long as the order is submitted before 4pm (they'd need at least 2 hours notice). Orders submitted after 4pm are ready by noon next-day.

At pickup you'd come into the store and they'd ring you through... meaning pricing is the same as if you picked out the order yourself. They aren't charging anything extra to assemble the order or pickup. No minimum order value.
