Thoughts? I have read alot of comments on facebook regarding Halloween and people arguing how kids should not go out and socialize (even if they wear a mask) Serious question …. Are you skipping Thanksgiving? What about Christmas? Are you not going to spend time with your family and friends? No judgement

Thanksgiving - we'll likely have to skip this year. We usually go to Winnipeg to see family, but that's unlikely to happen. We've had several family events (my husband is from a large family) canceled already this year.  
 
Hallowe'en - we'll see.  
 
Christmas - it's our year to stay home, so that's not a big deal. The larger issue for us will be the religious aspect. We already missed Triduum/Easter, things like Pentecost, Corpus Christi and other feast days, and I would be heartbroken if we had to miss the Nativity as well.

Honestly thats too far away for me to even guess at. As of Monday we have a limit of 10 for indoor gatherings again, so if that limit has to stay in place then we'll have to cancel family gatherings. There's more than 10 of us. If it gets lifted I'm going to see what the numbers are like.

Thanksgiving is cancelled.  
 
Halloween is definately cancelled.  
 
Xmas is the only thing were hopeful at the moment.

For the worst (possibility of a full lockdown and no travel) but hope for the best that maybe we won’t go back to that situation if people do as they are told now and take proper precautions.

Can’t see missing out on a good meal!  
Probably 17 of us for thanksgiving.  
Halloween we usually get 140 kids and will plan on the same and I know my kids won’t miss out.  
Christmas should be 22 of us.

It will be interesting to see how many people are willing to skip Halloween but not Thanksgiving

some of this will be able to happen. If not, some of the older more responsible members of your family will make the the right choice for everyone.

Thanksgiving is on October 12 so it is a two weeks before Halloween (October 31)

At least one Thanksgiving/Halloween tradition won’t be here for 2020... pumpkin patch has decided to not open for this season. Still planning to sell pumpkins:  

Unless you have 140 very close family and friends, you won’t get near that amount this year for hallowe’en.

We usual go all out, decorate, smoke machine, all that kind of stuff. Would hate to miss that. Now, saying that, got to make it safe. Normally I have bowls of candy, etc, that I reach in and had out. This year, mask up, wash hands, and make ready made packages for the kids. Normally the kids come right up, and I go check them out, and give them the candy. Think this year, I will get some sort of grabber, so I can hand out the candy, at range. Wearing a mask of course, and lots of sanitizing. Probably way less kids, if any, but I want to do what I can to make it fun.  
 
One other suggestion I heard, is the kids dress up, and us adults drive by, dropping off candy (kids well back from the drop off point). I would recommend the parents wash all the candy first, but something like that can work. I would be OK with that too.

A prime example of why masks are now being mandated and so many are sick in the community. I feel so bad for those who will be going through the holidays without their loved one'swho have succumbed to this deadly virus. But hey, by all means, we wouldn't want you to miss out on a good meal since it really is all about you.

Going through holidays after losing a loved one is indescribable but while there are deaths caused by covid, please remember there are deaths daily from heart attacks,cancers, pnemonia, car accidents, old age,suicides,murders,etc.It's a sad part of life. Yes we need to be careful but at the same time we can't stop trying to live our lives while we can and have something to look forward to during this stressful time espc with our city/province having more cases.... I'm sure we can think of ways to celebrate holidays...even if it means small gatherings one day and another small gethering another day instead of all in one day say for thanksgiving and christmas. Kids need christmas. Even if it's a small one. Even with following hand washing distancing wearing masks etc there is no 100% guarantee you won't catch the virus. Also alot of people recover from it too..I know a couple of people who had it and it was harsh but they are ok now, and sadly others dont recover and others have health issues after. We can't keep living in fear and stop everything in life. Be careful,kind, do your best and yes think of others but we need some hope in this world. I've lost family this year and the holidays will be different and not the same without those people in my families lives, but it doesn't mean we never celebrate anything again. If celebrating a holiday like christmas gives some hope then we can do it safely, it doesn't mean someone is being disrespectful to those who have passed. If I've misunderstood what you were trying to say then politely explain. There have been virus/diseases/plagues in the past and whether man made or natural there will be in the future and there will alway be people who don't give a crap and are careless (like those who drive crazy speeds down the streets thinkng they are cool when they are idiots, until God forbid they hit someone or hopefully cops catch them speeding) We just need to be more creative now and at the same time keep those we lost close in our hearts as we try to go on.

Hope you and your family are around next year

Thanksgiving...not going to worry about it just yet. It would be a very small family gathering if anything.  
 
Halloween...not a chance. My kids will not be going out and we will not be handing out candy. That’s just plain selfish to contribute to the spread of this virus for something like a fun night of collecting candy.  
 
Christmas...I only hope people can smarten up and stop being so selfish so that we can all have some hope of being even with a small group of our families this Christmas.  
 
Some of us did our part by not doing a lot of the things we normally would on summer break, so we would finally like to get back to normal after so long, but now we can’t.

As I told my Mom lastnight, I might not bother going home for Christmas unless covid gets settled down in a hurry mask on or off. My parents are pretty sensitive to the whole covid thing, fair enough as they are elderly.  
 
This would be the first time in 20 years which I didn't go home for Christmas or go home in a year. My brothers younger 2 will sure miss their Uncle not handing out the Christmas presents <:img src=:images/icon_frown.gif>:  
 
Thanks to some who couldn't behave themselves in advance this past month.

Thanksgiving will be spent with family.  
 
Halloween won’t be canceled just different- movies and treats no trick or treating.  
 
Christmas with family.  
 
We won’t be having our family out from Alberta anytime soon and not likely for Christmas.  
 
Now if things get bad then there is always the possibility of us going into lockdown again and then things could change.

But I tend to tune out when someone offers up a useless comparison. What is even remotely similar between a pandemic which can be controlled by community action and murder?

Sorry I'm not sure what you are asking/commenting about in my post?  
If you are refering to my mentioning different ways people die (aside from covid)  
it's not a comparison.

Cheeseburgermonster,I wouldn’t worry about it, I think that poster was just wanting to be mean. I’m sorry for your loss, and I hope you are able to celebrate in a meaningful way.  
 
You are right, people are dying from different causes and it’s sad that those causes aren’t getting the same attention. Thinking of suicide, car accidents and domestic violence, but there are others.

thanks for the kind comment...Loss of a loved one hurts, but ya we don't hear as much of other passings, unless it's covid related (or also riot related if you're in the states espc or certain european countries).  
 
I don't know what will be happening around Christmas time but was thinking of the christmas dinner and if they can't have it the original way with safety measures, is there a way to some how safely do it so those less fortunate/homeless can still have a meal? I don't know how many people show up to the dinners in general, but maybe delivery drivers can deliver the hot meals during the day for a couple of days before Christmas? I was at a mosque that every weekend made hot food and had addresses of people who needed a meal and had people do deliveries.(They also had hot food to give to a couple of churches for their daily free meal for homeless, and bagged lunches to give to the homeless and homeless shelters along with warm socks and toques)  
 
And also Christmas Cheer board and hampers I hope that can get safely done too.

But that is what a conversation is all about. I honestly did not read what you had said about losing family and am very sorry for your loss. It is one of the hardest things to live through (especially during the holidays) no matter how they passed. No "meanness" was intended.

I don't expect to be travelling this year. Nor do I think I'll even have anyone over. Heck, I don't even know when it is wise to take a gander out to visit folks in the peg considering our recent flare-up.  
 
It will be interesting to see what happens with Christmas shopping and such. If sales will fall due to people sticking close to home.  
 
It is what it is. We will see what 2021 brings. Hopefully not 2022 lol.

Leave a big bowl of chip bags on your front step and your porch lights on. Then the kids can come grab their treats without any contact! Win-win!!!

And we all know how clean kids hands are, so going from house to house grabbing treats from the same bowl couldn’t possibly spread any germs. Lol! And how do I know the people who put the candy out aren’t infected and have their germs all over the treats?  
 
Lots of ways to make Halloween fun for the kids. Buy your own candy, dress up, have your own Halloween party at home. Put out your decorations so the neighborhood kids can walk by and see them. No one will die if there is no trick or treating for one year.

Do you really think there will be a lot of houses handing out candy?? I don’t so even if we wanted too what’s the point.  
 
Why not just dress up and go to peoples houses you know like grandmas etc. For us we will just buy our own candy and make our own fun.

I don’t really care about thanksgiving too much so no loss of it doesn’t happen. Just like last year with the big snow storm, many people couldn’t go anywhere for thanksgiving. We’ll just have our own mini thanksgiving.  
 
I’m doubting we will be trick or treating but that doesn’t mean Halloween is cancelled. The kids will be wearing costumes and we will buy candy, maybe do a hunt around the house for the candy!  
 
Christmas is sooo far away that it’s too hard to say what will happen. Be sad to miss Christmas with everybody but if we are still restricted than there are way to many of us to get together.

that is the one I worry about people not following rules and we have an even higher case load everywhere.

Labor day weekend, Thanksgiving, Halloween and eventually Christmas - this should be a no brainer as what steps to follow health wise. If people are not going to follow the rules to bring covid-19 under control the Government will do an attitude adjustment. They will mandate the closure of all city businesses and put the entire city of Brandon under quarantine with the army preventing anyone from entering of exiting the city. Put aside your egos and start working for the good of all citizens - this is only a minor inconvience compared to what things can become.
