Pretty sure if we build it they will come. Doesn’t have to be gigantic just somewhere people can go on days like these. Could be a reservoir lined with fake swooping palm trees or all I care. Put some Jimmy Buffet music on in the background and let’s all just chill. You can have some of my tax dollars for it. Of course Covid is screwing that idea all up but maybe someday. I think it would draw people from all around. Then again maybe I’m just dreaming it is Brandon after all.

We had one. It was called Curran Park, and it's now Turtle Crossing. The city sold it off years ago.  
 
We were at the one in Reston this week. Very nice! The kids really enjoyed swimming out to the floating platform. Highly recommend as a day trip if you can.

Yep, have thought about this for a decade, a beach spot off the Assinaboine, never happened though, even as our population is on the rise. Apparently other venues, took priority as you said, " oh well this is Brandon."  
So sad.

the Brookwood development was touting a lake, but they just ended up being sloughs. Not a place where you would want to swim. But you would also want to make sure the lake won't stagnate like what happens in Killarney .  
 
But definitely, we need something like that in Brandon. But there is too much NIMBY in Brandon. Ya, we want one, but not in my area and repeat.

I think that would be great for Brandon, many times when I lived there I would of loved to go to a lake.  
 
Don’t think it will draw tons of people from outside Brandon though, many small town have lakes near them. In fact every small town I have lived in had a lake 10 minutes or less away.

My dad used to talk about the 16th street beach. He used to go there as a kid in the 1930’s. He also mentioned how in those days bathing suits were often made of wool. A wool bathing suit combined with sand does not create a sense of joy.

Think there is so many lakes, and lakes with beaches around Brandon, and just swimming pools in general that they wouldn’t do it. Also I don’t know about you but I would rather swim in the brookwood sloughs then the Assiniboine lol.

Reston’s man made lake and splash park are amazing!! We went there so many times last year and will be going again this year. It’s clean/warm water with a diving board, nice sand, private bathrooms with showers, splash park right there so depending on your kids ages and supervision, it’s great to entertain all ages at same time. The golf course’s clubhouse has ice cream and hot food and is right beside the parking lot. It’s a perfect day trip!  
 
I wish Brandon would consider a man made lake or another pool but I’ve given up hope. It should be noted though that Reston (and most other small towns) fundraise for their water parks and it’s the residents of the town that take on the project

the type of fundraising seen in other communities doesn't exist in Brandon.

Brandon area planning would need 3 studies. 10 consultations. $1 billion in building permits and set aside $0 for maintenance.

was the lake at Curran Park? I know of the pool and the river access.

Here is an idea, if an inside Brandon location would be impossible, could one be done just outside the city limits? This is all imaginary right now anyway, but that could be an option if the city is one big reason that nothing is done.

right on the west side of the gas bar at the new WayWay fuel stop/convenience store! They have the space for it.

when I was a kid we rode our bikes to the lake in the Brandon Hills .They could develop that into a great place to camp . Now you can't even go swimming there , it is all private .The lake is fed by a spring on the north side of the lake . It wouldn't take much to clean up a place for a beach that everyone could use .

Back in the 80s the water slides were always so much fun. Too bad they are gone!

We had Curran park water area and we had the water slides back in the day. I am not sure the exact reason they both closed.  
 
This is exact reason why it is so important to support local. If these places were making a lot of money they would still be in operation (in theory - as I am just assuming it’s money is the reason).

Ain't this the truth

I hate when I hear, “Brandon used to have a water park but it closed”…..ya, so? Restaurants close all the time and yet we still see more open. Plus, Brandon isn’t the same now…there’s lots of new families in the area and it’s bigger, as well as the surrounding communities.

How many of you remember this ? If Brandon would have built its own lake the logo would have to have been changed to read 100,001 lakes. This would have wrecked the entire scheme of things !!!
