Downtown observation (today)
4/21/2007 at 2:44 PM
I just felt the need to make a post this afternoon, after my visit to do some shopping "downtown".
I was very impressed by the fact that on Rosser Avenue, between 12th and 6th street, that you would have been lucky to snag a parking space...lots of vehicles, and as well there seemed to be lots of people walking the sidewalks checking out what "was" open as well.
Took a cruise down Princess from 6th to 13th and was seeing the same thing. People and vehicles, something I thought was a "good" thing.
Then I did what I normally do...I head to the parkade at the Town Centre so I could park and do my visit and spend some cash in one of my favorite stores in the mall there.
First, there was hardly anyone parked on the main level...
Second, there was hardly any people in the T.C., besides the "KIDS/GYM" program and the people sitting at the tables selling goods and baking for local causes, which was nice to see. Did my shopping and walked around for a bit and left the T.C.
Why I am even posting this on ebrandon I guess, is that I find this type of sight to be common "downtown"...there are lots of people, and I would agree with all the advocates of downtown, there needs to be more, BUT...I would have to also say that before people start trying to "pick-on" certain businesses or hotels for the lack of a better downtown...they should look closer into the Town Centre situation, before they start pointing fingers...it is not the mall that it was built to be anymore, which can be said about the "hotels" or other businesses that have been getting lots of attention and considered to be the major factors of downtowns image problems.
I think people may want to look at the Town Centre or include them in the "box" or "list" of problems they are compiling as well. Sorry Mr. Kirton, I heard you publicly state your opinion on the "hotels" and the "safety" issues as being major...but I think you may need to look around your place of work a little closer and maybe include some of the downfalls that the Town Centre has as well.
And please take notice, I am talking about the Town Centre "itself", not any of the businesses or administrative offices, library/art gallery, food court, etc. etc. Thanks...my 2 cents for today.
