east enders need cameras....lots and lots of cameras..

Do you know for sure that a house was shot up or is it just word on the street?  
 
I did see some cop cars parked in the 300 block of Russell, but that doesn't really mean much.

I know a couple different people on that street. Apparently the police were going door to door to ask if anyone knew anything. Sounds like it happened early this morning and they shot up a different house this time.  
I imagine there will be a release tomorrow about it since it's a long weekend today. There's nothing on the sun site or the media page for the BPS but it sounds legit.

A good friend of mine lives next door to the house that was shot up, and yes, it WAS shot up according to their posts on Facebook.  
 
Apparently it happened two times - around 4am and again at 5:30am.

Yes there was another house shot at on Monday according to this article. More details to be released.

who thinks that the BPS should be having a larger presence in that area with surveillance and patrols??? The fact that this happened a second time while under the not so watchful eye of the BPS just goes to show that they do not have the situation under control and they come across as a joke to the people doing it. Do more and do it now....

are drug related, it's time for police to kick butt. How many of us can pinpoint in our city block houses where illegal activity is going on?

So what do you want? A cop car on every street sitting there 24/7? They shot an empty house from what I read. Is it even related to the first instance?

There are people with guns that have proven they are not afraid to use them to shoot at empty houses, houses with people or to point at people in home invasions. Is it unreasonable to ask for more abundance of police presence in that area for a while to possibly catch them or at least make them think twice about continuing?  
People are being run from their homes because they no longer feel safe. As for it all being drug related.... do your homework, they are not all related.

For the last few years people have been screaming that there are to many policemen/woman in Brandon and that we pay them too much. So the Policing budget is cut to save money. What does that mean? Less money = Less police.  
 
Now people want more police. You can't have your cake and eat it too. More Police = More Money. If you want a greater police presence in this town you will have to take it to City Hall to have the budget increased. Also not to mention all the other processes involved with getting trained police on the ground  
 
Oh and talking about their salaries. How much money would it take for to repeatedly respond to a call were you can potentially be attacked shot/stab maimed or killed and see things that cannot be unseen?

So I just checked Crime Reports for Brandon from 1st St to 17th St. East and the river to Victoria Ave. and there are 17 incidents in this area. 1st to 18th and Victoria to Pacific has over 100 incidents. So you are saying that we should be putting 24/7 police presence in the east end?

That the weapons used shot bullets not only into the home but through several rooms. How long before someone is killed or seriously hurt?

The embarrassing part is that there was no police presence 1.5 hrs after the first shooting. It's not the matter of having more police it's the matter of doing their jobs properly. You can't tell me that they went in and examined the house cleared it and gathered bullet evidence in less than 1.5 hrs

It's a different story on the police report released today. It said that they had several calls of gun shots in the area at 4:30am. The police "extensively patrolled the area" , but found nothing (no one pointed out the house shot at, just that shots were heard, so they didn't see any houses that looked damaged in the dark). Then in the morning a resident on that block saw the damage and called it in. It didn't say anything about 2 shootings an hour and a half apart.

there has been discussion about the high cost of policing, not just in Brandon.  
 
As for the very real problem of various trauma that our police men and women have to face not even a million dollar salary would make it better for them. They see and experience stuff that we can't even bear to think of. They still remember and always will, kind of like soldiers suffer.  
 
That being said I hope that when deciding to make policing your career that these young people are wanting to serve and protect citizens and not looking so much at the paycheque.

People think they aren't doing enough if you know anything about the drug unit in Brandon both city and RCMP they are very active, you don't notice them because of unmarked and undercover vehicles plain clothes the fact nobody's noticing them means they re doing it right, having marked squad cars circling the block 24/7 would just make their job harder these investigations take time its not like TV where they wrap things up in a couple days.

And maybe it is just my thinking....By flooding an area with police are the criminals really going to come out and say "Here I am!". You would want to go in hush hush and see what comes out. Sort of like cockroaches...turn the light on they scatter.

They should stop focusing on traffic violations more than anything, I swear I see a check stop at least 3 times a week that's a waste of man power in my option when they can be patrolling dangerous places around the city like its downtown and the east end. I think all the Brandon police they just got lazy since nothing really happened in this small town but that's just my opinion.

Just a question ! Say the house is shot at and there's 3 people inside , should that not be 3 counts of attempted murder ??? The intent is there to kill! I was just curious

Brandon sun went and spoke to 1 woman about 10 houses away from the incident! I live directly across the street from the house for sale and I was awake with my new born baby ( who may I add my other 15 month old sons bedroom is in the front of the house facing the home that was shot at) 5 shots ( from what sounded like a riffle it was the same kind of gun used to shoot the home 30 times! Exact same sound) went off about 4:20 am it took police almost 15 minutes to arrive at the scene! That's a ridiculous and embarrassing response time They did an extensive search yes but as far as I''m concerned they could have and should have had dogs in and they could have cought him! My husband and I watching out our front and back windows this entire time. Then as soon as police cleared out a man ran across Russell and up in between my home and my neighbors  
I heard it from my bed room window and one of my across the street neighbor saw the mans shadow! then a vehicle sped through the Russell/ Dennis st alley then 2 more ( different sounding like a hand gun) shots went off on this side between the houses at 5:15 am. Obviously the first shooter layed low and whoever was being shot at decided to shoot back! There were only a hand full of people that heard the second round of shots And police did not re attend until nearly 11:30 am Monday morning! Then going door to door and speaking to as many people as possible! Having the hand full of us go in for statements! The lead detective on the case did not even know there were a second round of shots until he spoke with the people that heard it! The fact that it was a different gun says a lot also! You can''t tell me that these guys break a door downs and hold a man at gun point then not a half hour later there''s a house riddled with over 30 shots ( which word on the street was that it was the wrong house also as the family living there were apparently out of town and yes bullets went through walls and passed into several rooms their younge Childs bedroom as well) so apparently that was the wrong house as well) then almost 3 weeks later another shooting 2 doors down. Their connected 100% and the police should have already got these guys! Instead of sending officers around telling us it was targeted ( BS as the house was empty) and telling people it won''t happen again they should have had those officers out looking! They posted a marked cruiser outside the home 2 nights after for almost 4 hours who say with their head lights and interior lights ON! Come on yes that''s certainly the way to lure them back! I know it''s a deterrent BUT it''s not going to help them catch them! What if these guys lay low for 3 more weeks or a year! Then come back! My 2 older children can''t play outside! For fear as the first shooting happened at 4 pm on a Sunday! I''ve had to move my younger son from his bedroom in the front of the home! I fear getting up every night to feed my newborn and every light that turns on from motion leaves my bones trembling! So people from various areas of the city sure have a lot to say but this did not affect you or your family! Amping up police presence is not going to catch them ether the police need to be a little smarter about this whole thing cause right now their A) ether being out smarted, or B) letting this happen to try take something bigger down They are leaving a lot of details hidden from the public and it''s making people nieve and playing a dangerous game with people''s lives to boot! We lived in Toronto previously and I have never felt this unsafe!  
My husband has since put our cameras up but that won''t block a stray bullet from going through mine or any of my neighbors homes and possibly injuring or killing one of our family members! Police have made several arrests in the last three weeks in connection to the gun violence. The only incident they haven't made an arrest in is the most recent shooting that happened last Sunday. But I can gaurentee that police are working hard behind the scenes to make more arrests, just give it sometime.

Traffic enforcement is a good thing, because it makes people accountable for their horrible driving and it also leads to arrests. It takes people off the street who have warrants, drugs or guns in their vehicle, stolen vehicles, stolen liscense plates, people without liscenses, etc. ALot of the time those are the same people who are committing these crimes. Police could prevent a crimes from happening by doing traffic enforcement.  
 
A month ago police arrested a drug dealer in a traffic stop for a traffic violation downtown and the guy ended up having a loaded shot gun in his vehicle on top of all the drugs he had in the vehicle. That guy could of easily have been going to commit a crime with that gun, but because of traffic enforcement it was prevent.  
 
Traffic enforcement and check stops also take drunk drivers off the road who can kill you and your family.

Frequently, “routine” vehicle stops result in the identification of wanted criminals or the seizure of illegal weapons and drugs.

Everybody knows who is doing this, but the cops need evidence to get a conviction, so they are investigating these clowns which takes time, they just cant jack boot in the front door take them to a judge and say well your honor the whole town thinks its them,and to the people that think they are doing nothing or not enough and should be giving the public more details on what they are doing, are you shitting me, what police force on this planet does that, ever watch a police press release where suspects are at large its the standard this is an on going investigation and that's all I'm saying, doesnt that make sense suspects watch TV read the paper.

My reply is: "I'm sorry you were so close! How scary! That was my house that was shot, and although it was vacant at the time there is often someone there. The neighborhood used to be really good. I hope they catch the bad guys. I'm trying to sell my house, and because of the incidents in the last month I've had to really drop the price. I'm unsure of why my house was targeted? I just hope they catch the people responsible. It really was a great neighborhood up until a month ago. I am sorry tho that you've had to experience the 2 shootings. Thankfully me and my family weren't at the house when those things were happening. Take care.
