If they would just legalize, this problem it would drop immensely these drug gangs would not be fighting for sales territory, when you can buy it legally from the government and the taxes and savings from not prosecuting jailing them would cover any collateral health problems, jail doesnt scare these people they have been jailing them as long as I have been alive that's a long time and its just gotten worse, all this get tough bull shit has never worked and never will it just raises the risk so they raise the price, look at the country's that have the death penalty they still have drugs they are still executing drug smugglers and dealers by the hundreds

marihuana? Or do you think cocaine and meth should be legalized too?

I don't want to highjack this thread but I think what you may mean is to decriminalize drug use while keeping the drug itself illegal!  
 
Decriminalizing drug use and possession of small amounts allows options for addicts to pursue treatment rather than face jail time. Jailing an addict doesn't treat the symptoms of the addiction.  
 
Keeping the drug itself illegal still allows the police to pursue, investigate, and charge dealers. The decriminalization protects users who are better dealt with through treatment rather than prosecution! The best example of a successful model on this is the country of Portugal.  
 
Addicts don't normally go around shooting houses. This is the work of dealers in a territory war or collecting on someone who owes a lot of money! Or maybe it's not drug related at all and it's a family feud gone overboard!  
 
Regardless of what's going on, we all want to feel safe in our community and I trust that the professionals know what they're doing.

Just read on Twitter that police in Winnipeg are suppose to have a press conference tomorrow morning to release more on the drug investigation in Brandon and arrests related to the investigation.

Thank you for your message it is a very scary situation and a month ago when the shooting happened in the afternoon my kids happened to be busy in the back yard with my husband cleaning crab apples otherwise they most likely would have been out front riding their bikes from the 1 stop sogn on our block to the other as that's what little boys should be able to do Infront of our home on a Sunday afternoon! I won't even let them wait outside for me in the mornings when we are walking to school. We just moved here from Toronto as I previously mentioned just back in January and yes this part of the city is known for how safe it's always been. Let's hope it goes back to normal! Nobody should have to live like this! I certainly wouldn't want to be in your shoes with that house now. And why the paper had to put a picture of it and advertise it to the public is not going to help you in selling the home! The traffic up and down our street for a week after the shooting was ridiculous with nosey people that have nothing better to do then drive by and stare at a house that was shot at! It's really all a sad situation that's affected too many people now! I'm happy to hear your family is safe thank goodness! Hopefully this will all get sorted and they will catch them so you can sell and not have the hasstle of it all!

How this might be related to this and many other stories that we read on social media, is read all comments and links, and usually what is out there, as far as information goes, will be found.  
Just my opinion, this story is about shooting in Brandon, which is illegal and wrong, but there also seems to be a lot of sniping that happens.  
Nice to see the exchange between the people who live in the area, had a human side to it, which seems to sometimes lacking in issues that do need a human side to them.

In addition to the farm raided by Griswold police also arrested men in the 1200 block of First street and the 900 block of 8th.

sorry that you''re living in fear, but I don''t know who told you that part of the city is known for how safe it''s always been. Not much more than a decade ago, it was worse than it is now, beatings, robberies, drugs, gangs, stabbings. That area of town has been cyclical for a very long time, that''s why there''s no longer a corner store by the school it got robbed too often. It''s had it''s longest "good stretch" recently & become very family friendly, but it never lasts. Now that doesn''t mean it''s not a good place to live, but that is what living in the East is all about, you get the good times and the bad times.  
 
I think the difference is now with social media etc. people are taking more notice when there's problems, and it's getting more media attention than it did back then. People are just more aware.

Sunrise surprise they where doing something after all, why people thought they where doing nothing about the shooting boggles the mind, they are at work all the time, sad thing is before they get all the lose ends wrapped up on this bust somebody else will be serving Brandons drug needs, then they will be back to investigating and finding the next batch and then the next and the next its been like this as long as I can remember until we legalize it wont stop, until the government takes over, or regulates private enterprise selling drugs young punks with nothing to lose will step up get bust get a criminal record few job prospect and we have another career criminal.

It is articles like this that need time to develop. People come on here all the time as keyboard warriors saying how others can better do their job, yet have no clue of what actually goes on. I was going to comment earlier in this thread but waited to see what transpired. Like another poster said the east end was a pretty bad place at one time. I do remember hearing about the store being robbed constantly. Due to dealing with my daughter and involving police I am fully aware that they know what is going on from actually talking to them on related matters. They are not just going to spill their case all over the media or local resident and screw up a month's long investigation. Having to put myself in a position I didn't ask for, our police service fully knows what is going on in our city and are doing a fine job in handling the issues they deal with. To them I raise my glass and say thank you.

I'm asking because people are so quick to judge our police services when they really haven't the right to do so. If you aren't armed with all the information necessary to form opinions or make judgements perhaps it's not fair to criticize our police service when you really do not know what is going on.

I was quite disgusted with that comment for a few reasons, but the main reason was that I know the homeowner. This person is NOT involved in the gun and drug subculture. So the police are saying this homeowner has little to worry about? What about the innocent family whose home was invaded when this all started?  
 
I hope "Project Derringer" puts an end to all this. That was my neighbourhood, and yes, it was always safe! (The corner store comment, you're thinking of the townhouses in the far east end. That is a different neighbourhood.)

Sorry to bring it up again. I realize it's old news. I didn't know where to post this though. It was MY house that was shot this last time. Shortly after it was shot, I started having nightmares of my dogs being stolen and tortured. Now this has happened to people in Minnedossa. I am SO sorry for those events that have happened to you. My sense of peace is very shaky. No, I wasn't in the home when my house was shot. It WAS a good neighborhood. I lived there for 5 years. I am NOT into drugs or any reason I would be a target. I've kept quiet to maybe help the police in any investigation... but also because I want to sell my house. I've dropped the price almost $40 000 since this has happened. (because my house now has a stigma.) I am GRATEFUL my dogs weren't hurt! I don't know if I could have handled that. But, the crimes around here are getting out of control. My heart is broken for what the family of the 2 dogs is going through. I am totally sickened at what the ********* did to them! But did I miss something, or is the crime rate out of control right now? I liked living in my little bubble.

Has victim services been in touch with you? I would think you would be a prime candidate for their help - as well as the young family that was held at gunpoint in the other home.  
 
I know when we had a tire slashed in a spree done by a young offender a few years back, we got four or five letters offering us "counseling services" if we needed it as a victim of crime. I found it a bit ridiculous at the time.  
 
This is a far more serious crime spree though, and this is one time I hope they are making themselves known to victims.  
 
We too, are in the area (lived here for 15 years) and I still find myself looking around when I go out and double checking the door locks. Not to mention I work downtown in the same block as the shooting that we are now told was allegedly a contract killing. So my home and work day are not entirely comfortable right now.  
 
I'm sorry, but telling the public this was targeted and if you are not involved you should not be at risk does not make me feel at all better.  
 
What offends me the most is the Mayor's comments about crimes being sensationalized, and the fact that the Riverview councilor Mr Parker has not said word one (that I have seen - forgive me if I missed it) to his constituents.....there seems to be a lack of empathy from our elected officials, save for Coun Dejarlais who I did see some comments from, bravo!
