In my defense

Not about cows, really!
Before I made a comment, comments 4,5,8, and nine all mentioned livestock, and one of the comments was made by the original poster. I wonder about seeing a snare once it becomes imbedded in the hide, we have had cattle get high tensile wire wrapped around their hooves, and it is a 12 gauge wire, and I think that snare wire is likely about a 20 gauge wire which is considerably smaller, the only reason the vet found it was he used a scalpel to dig around to see what the problem was. Another thing, have you ever treated an animal on pasture for foot rot, we use a stock doctor, which means you don't confine the animal, and sometimes make the injection while the animal is trying to get away from you, so if a wire was even visible you likely wouldn't see it.
Now for the shooting instead of trapping. The poster stated that it was a hobby, but also went on to say that he trapped animals as well, but wouldn't trap beaver because the outlay in time and effort wasn't worth it. I'm not going to judge the original poster because my opinion of him coming on here asking likely means he's a straight up guy. With that being said we have had experiences with people who have been after coyotes before, and after receiving assurances that no snares will be put out, you find snares if you follow the trail they make. Like the original poster said $140 for a coyote, and who's going to check if snares have been put out. Well some people do, and it's sort of a sad thing to have to say, but too many times what you find makes you very negative towards those who choose to harvest animals.
